We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well I didn’t really plan on starting my own business when I did. It was due a serious of unfortunate events with the last shop I worked at and not feeling comfortable with the other places around. So, I said I guess it’s time to branch out on my own. I have always been fascinated with body modification so body piercing came naturally to me. I love everything about it! Starting my own shop was the cherry on top.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Body piercing is my pride and passion. I dream about it and think about it 24/7. I am always thinking of new procedures I can perform and methods to use. I’m obsessed with the jewelry and set ups I can do with it. Body piercing is an art form and you have to put everything into it to succeed. If you don’t you won’t go very far and find yourself making a lot of mistakes. As of right now I’m excited about everything. My new business, my sponsorship, my freedom, literally everything. I wake up everyday happy to be who I am and doing what I love!
I got to where I am by pushing and never giving up even when it got tough. I truly love what I do and want to do it until I physically can’t anymore. I can’t see myself doing anything else. I want to be a household name in body piercing.
I have learned to never give up, to respect the craft, be humble, and stay passionate. All these in my opinion are what make a person successful in their career and everything else in life for that matter.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First I would definitely have to take them out for a night on the town. I would take them to Lola’s on Berry St., 7th Street, Magnolia area, and downtown Fort Worth. Fort Worth has a lot to offer so I would have to take them to as many fun spots as possible. I would also take them to the Coyote drive in theater because that is an experience in its own. For food I would take them to check out Blue sushi, Serious Pizza, and Velvet Taco. Those are definitely my favorite places to eat. For a chill time I would take them to the Fort Worth zoo, botanicals gardens, and the water gardens. I can’t forget to mention Sundance Square that is also a very good time with lots of food and fun to offer.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First of all I would love to thank my mentor Daniel Mills. He is the person that trusted in me and gave me my opportunity to pursue my dream. He taught me everything he knew and pushed me everyday! He is seriously one of the people I am most grateful for.

I would also like to thank Blackwork supply for my sponsorship. It has always been a dream of mine to be sponsored! They chose me as their first sponsored piercer and everyday I wake up thankful and grateful for it. Love you guys!!

I would also like to thank all my friends, family, girlfriend, and clients for all the support, trust, and for pushing me along the way. I couldn’t do this without any of you!

I’m very thankful for everyone on my journey. I’ve learned a lot and accomplished things I never thought possible with the help from all of you.
