We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Crisp and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted independence, control, and the opportunity to pursue my passions. Starting my own business provided me a platform to shape my destiny, make decisions independently, and potentially achieve financial success. This also allowed me creative expression, as often my businesses allowed me to provide a unique product or service that could make a positive impact with my clients.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
From my Online bio:
As a bestselling author, award-winning filmmaker, and professional musician, Michael Crisp is a true, modern-day renaissance man.
Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Michael moved to Kentucky at the age of 4 and has become one of the state’s most creative and versatile people.
As an author, Michael’s books include Murder in the Mountains: The Muriel Baldridge Story, which revisits one of the nation’s most notorious cold case investigations. He also has written a series of travel books including The Tennessee Bucket List, The Ohio Bucket List, The Best Kentucky Trivia Book Ever and The Kentucky Bucket List, which became Kentucky’s top selling book upon its release in 2013. Michael’s newest books include It’s a Kentucky Thing: Y’all Wouldn’t Understand, and its sequel, It’s a Kentucky Thing 2: Y’all Still Wouldn’t Understand.
As a filmmaker, Michael has directed and produced a string of successful documentaries. These films include Legendary: When Baseball Came to the Bluegrass, which was screened at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, and When Happy Met Froggie, which featured interviews with celebrity actresses Morgan Brittany (of TV’s “Dallas”) and Lana Wood (lead actress in the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever). The film also aired on ABC television in 2011. Michael’s documentary The Very Worst Thing, which revisits one of the most tragic school bus crashes in our country’s history, won the prestigious Storyteller Award at the Redemptive Film Festival in 2010.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to downtown Georgetown and show them the birthplace of bourbon, Royal Spring, where Elijah Craig is rumored to have invented bourbon many years ago.
I would take them out to eat at some of the city’s most popular restaurants, including Galvin’s, Local Feed and Fava’s Restaurant. I would also take them to enjoy delicious craft beers at Country Boy Brewing and Chinkapin Brewery. I would also take them for a tour of the Toyota Motor Manufacturing plant, which is one of the largest automotive factories in the world.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Anne is unwaveringly devoted to my entrepreneurial pursuits, serving as my chief advocate and motivator. Her encouragement extends beyond words, as she actively participates in discussions, lends a sympathetic ear during challenges, and celebrates victories with genuine enthusiasm. Anne’s unwavering support fuels my confidence, fostering a collaborative spirit that strengthens both our personal and professional bonds.
