Meet Mershawn Scott | Lobo cinema

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mershawn Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mershawn, what are you inspired by?
My dad inspires me which is weird to say because I don’t know my dad. I guess you can say he inspires me in a different way. He inspires me to be something he wasn’t by being a good person and a hard working father and husband by going after whatever I put my mind to. A lot of times I think if I had knew him what would he say to me if he could see what I’m trying to accomplish and the journey I’m on. Sometimes I image having a conversation and him telling me about his past, the things he tried at my age, and how you only live once so try everything your young and shoot for the stars and never give up. It’s weird saying this out loud compared to in my head but I always tell myself when I’m struggling and feel like I just want to throw in the towel what kind of man would I be if I didn’t try you know? I think about when I found out my wife was pregnant with my son and I was so scared and a little discouraged because I was like how do I be a father to a baby boy when I never had one. I had all kinds of mixed emotions that I didn’t know how to react. It would make me so mad because everyone kept telling me you will be fine your good and I just felt like no one understood what I was struggling with mentally. After my son was born it’s like all that fear and anxiety disappeared and I told myself I’m going to do everything in my power to build a legacy for my son because my dad didn’t for me. I guess in a way not knowing my father has always been the reason I push myself so hard. I want to be able to look back on my life and my journey by smiling knowing I’ve accomplished everything I’ve set my mind to and that no matter what not knowing my dad is fuel to the fire.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I would say the thing that sets me apart is the awareness I have but also my love for people I encounter. I’ll touch the first thing which is my awareness. Ever since I was young I’ve always been aware of where I am at as a human mentally, emotionally and intellectual. I’m very aware when I don’t know something but also real with myself. I have no problem saying hey bro that video sucked today you could of did better or you know you were being lazy on that edit. I have no problem criticizing myself but I am also learning now in this season that I am in. I have to remind myself in every season of life being you is the only thing that matters people will always have their opinions and criticism but at the end of the day it’s their opinions. I don’t care if everyone likes my content I’m not doing this for everyone’s approval I’m doing this off the passion that I have. Now obviously you know working with people you do have to take into consideration what others say but that’s just part of the business. As a creator you should never get so caught up in the money and views that you forget about the passion and just having fun remembering the things that made you want to create in the first place. I know I’ve mentioned love for people I’ve encounter with and have had the opportunity to meet some dope people while in this journey by building relationships some closer than others. Some people I would consider like family and my love for them is unconditional now with that I truly don’t care about going to shoot a video for someone who I truly have love for without payment. Let’s be real no one starts off making money and honestly that’s how I see it with those people. Those are the people who gave me the opportunity to create for them when I was first starting off and whether it was good or bad they stood by me and still let me create because it’s all love. I think that is what separates me. I look at character and who the individual is as a human. Who you are as a person speaks to me more than someone just paying me for a job.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to my favorite place called Santos Taco located in Crowley Texas. I love Authentic Mexican food and another place I would head to is Martin house located in Downtown Fort Worth for a few beers then to the stock yards.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people I would love to shout-out I can’t just think of one. I got my wife, my mom, my big bro Oso James, my mentor/brother who is one of the best cinematographers in DFW Anthony Oliphant, and my homies the one and only Reyna brothers better know as Andrew and Matty. The list goes on but those people I listed have played a big part in my journey so far where I am at they are so vital to me and many more people. They should know they are the ones who gave me the opportunity to shoot for them knowing I was new to the cinematography. Out of love they allowed my passion and joy to create for them so I appreciate everyone who is apart of this journey and just know this is only the beginning. I hope I don’t mess this up haha but I’m about to quote one of the best guys I know the homie Anthony “Inhale the positive exhale the negative and just breathe!”
