We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie MacFarlane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melanie, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I am a firm believer in perseverance especially when it comes to work ethic and following your dreams. However, there will inevitably be some times in life where we have to take a step back and evaluate certain situations to decide if it is something that is worth our time and effort. It is important to identify what is helping you grow as well as what is no longer serving you.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I began my journey and career in the aesthetics industry in January 2020. Being enrolled in school and working to earn my license as an aesthetician in the middle of a world pandemic was certainly not the easiest endeavor, but I was at a point in my life where I refused to let anything stop me from achieving my goals. Shortly thereafter I went on to attain my license as a Professional Laser Technician as well as my certification in aesthetic injectables. I’ve had the privilege of being in practice using all of these skills over the last three years as well continuing my education and expanding my skill sets along the way.
I recently got the opportunity to transition into a new chapter in my career when I was offered the position of Medical Spa Coordinator for North Texas Plastic Surgery, one of the largest and most renowned plastic surgery practices in Texas with five locations arcross the DFW metroplex. It is truly an honor to work alongside some of the most highly qualified and skilled providers in the industry.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There is certainly no shortage of things to do in the DFW area. Some of my favorite spots include the Shops at Legacy, where there are countless shops and restaurants. One of my personal favorite restaurants there is North Italia! It’s a must if you’re in the area. I also enjoy downtown Grapevine, which is filled with rich history along with many unique shops and dining. Then of course there is the Fort Worth Stockyards where you can soak up more history of the Fort Worth area and experience a true Texas experience at the rodeo, enjoy live music, food, drinks, and much more.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Being an advocate for mental health will always be of utmost importance to me, which puts me in a very unique position in the aesthetics industry at times.. After many of my own personal struggles, as well as the struggles of those that I love and have lost along the way, I have used my platform to bridge the gap between an often image focused industry and mental health awareness in hopes to shine a new light on such contrasting topics.
That being said, I would like to dedicate this shoutout in loving memory of my cousin, Brian Bonlie who we lost to suicide in 2021. Whether you have struggled yourself or have lost a loved one to suicide, know you are not alone. Whether you are struggling or in need of emotional support, 988 is the Suicide & Crisis hotline.
