We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Haupert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

Sure! I began my career as a Special Education Teacher, and upon the first few years of teaching I really felt myself drawn to working with children on the autism spectrum. I also would spend my evenings and weekends working with a little boy who had autism in his home providing behavior interventions, known as ABA Therapy, or Applied Behavior Analysis. I saw how incredibly successful the intervention was with him and it pushed me to obtain my BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) certification. This certification would allow me to provide and oversee the intervention that were so successful with this young boy. Upon initially receiving my certification, I shifted from a teaching role into a behavior specialist role and became a BCBA which led me to seeking employment in a clinical setting and providing intensive intervention. In 2014, I opened a clinic and began serving our local community, and we were one of the first clinics in our area offering this unique but effective intervention. The clinic grew, and we continued to serve and support families in our community through providing quality services and supports to families as well as trainings across the community. In 2021, the opportunity arose for my husband and I to transition out of state, but closer our family so we could raise our 3 small children near family. Upon this transition, I shifted from an ownership role into a consulting and support role. After this shift, I still wanted the opportunity to assist and help families directly which led to the opportunity to create Haupert Consulting and begin a new journey to assist in coaching and consulting with families in a different and unique way.

My favorite part of my job has always been investing families and children to overcome obstacles to change the trajectory of their lives. I love standing behind parents cheering them on, encouraging them, and sharing my knowledge and tools to empower them to have the confidence to advocate for their child. I wanted to combine my years of experience and resources to help families through this overwhelming journey of trying to find services and seek answers and help for their child after receiving their diagnosis.

In all my experience in working with families of children with autism for over 10 years the one thing I frequently heard was how overwhelming the journey is and can be. So often parents would say, “If I just had someone tell me what I needed to do.” Often parents spend months, and sometimes years navigating doctors and specialist searching for answers for their child, and then once they are giving that answer in the form of a diagnosis, they are left with more questions than answers. What’s next? What does my child need? Who can meet my child’s needs? What’s Occupational Therapy? What’s ABA Therapy? How do I know which one is best for my child? There is so much information for parents to navigate after receiving a diagnosis and most parents work full time jobs and have other children to care for all while trying to sort through services for their child. My vision was to provide guidance and support to families to help navigate this new and novel path. My goal is to assist parents through the steps to find the answers and services that are the best fit their needs.

What should our readers know about your business?

In addition to assisting parents through the initial early stages of navigating an autism diagnosis, Haupert Consulting is a coaching and consulting service for parents and families of children with behavior challenges. Our goal is to help educate and train parents to gain more insight into their child’s behavior and to assist in putting supports in place so their child will thrive. The coaching approach is unique because our focus is teaching parents skills that allow them to navigate and provide support to their child’s unique needs. Other services only offer supports to the child without focusing on the entire family dynamic. We strive to give parents the tools to advocate for their child in all areas of life. Our expertise allows us to provide support to families of individuals with autism and other disabilities, however, the coaching approaches can be utilized with all individuals and families.

Our coaching services consist of individual one-on-one sessions, consultation calls, and guidance through challenging behaviors. We can assist with potty training, food restrictiveness and learning a variety of new skills. Our unique approach allows us to meet parents where they are in their day to day lives. We can set up weekly appointments, or schedule phone call while a parent is on their way home from work, and because our services are provided virtually, we can serve families anywhere in the United States.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

So, being a farmer’s daughter who spent 10 years showing cattle, I am a big fan of the Stockyards! My personal favorite is the cattle drive they do each day! There is just something so surreal about all those Texas Longhorns walking down the old brick road that just makes you feel as if you have stepped back in time. After we took in the cattle drive, we would head over toe the old Cowtown Coliseum and take in a rodeo. I would make sure we booked our stay at the old Stockyards Hotel, because there’s nothing better than being able to stay right in the middle of all the action! We would be sure to spend a day or two shopping around the Stockyards and getting fitted for custom cowboy boots at Leddy’s. After picking up our boots we would head over to the Cattlemen’s Steakhouse for a Rib Eye Steak.  We would finish out the evening by checking out some bull riding and 2-step dancing at Billy Bob’s, home of some of the best Texas Red Dirt Country Concerts.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

There is no doubt I wouldn’t be where I am today, nor would I serve in the manner that I do if it wasn’t for my family, as they instilled in me the importance of hard work and serving others. Being a part of a farming family, provides a lot of life lessons. I learned that the day doesn’t end at the sound of a whistle, but when the sun goes down. Even then there is still work to do! My parents and grandparents served on numerous boards and committees growing up and modeled to me, to give back. I grew up surrounded by my cousins, working in my grandmother’s garden, and watching my family serve others in so many different capacities. All these things paved the path and shaped me into who I am today. It instilled in me that we are put on this earth to work hard and serve others. No matter the act, big or small, we are called to humbly serve others, and that’s my goal each day.
