We had the good fortune of connecting with Meg Messimer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meg, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I have learned over the years that being scared means your going in the right direction. I began seeing those stressful moments as larger opportunities. As an entertainer, I am constantly trying to apply for new events and sometimes the application process can be intimidating. Coming up with a new set or skill can be difficult & dangerous but if I don’t risk it all I may not get the position I’m reaching for. This is such a competitive market sometimes, so I fee like if I’m not slightly nervous then I’m not pushing hard enough.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a professional entertainer. In other words, I’m a professional hula hooper/stilt walker/dancer! I was knew I was never ment for a regular job. I tried for years and it never felt right & I was unhappy. When I decided that hula hooping was what I wanted to do for a living, everyone thought I was nuts. I was always told entertaining was no real job and I would never make it, which was discouraging…but I still loved it so i kept trying. It was difficult to find places to hire me non the less how to apply for such an odd position…which was discouraging. I have been rejected several times and that has definitely hurt, but then I have reminders of why I love doing this and keep going. I would dance as a way to relax and feel my soul again knowing I’m still in the right direction, I couldn’t give up. Now this market is booming and its a constant battle to keep your skills fresh, new and brought to the next level every time. Its challenging for sure, I have moments of doubt then realize dancing is literally all I want to do and there’s no way I’m going to do anything else. I may trip sometimes, but I am always going to get back up. I won’t be able to stilt walk or be a professional dancer forever so I figured I have to give it my all now!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Royal 38 is the top of my list, the have great drinks, food and the best staff in Dallas! We love to see our friends, Jeremy & Sergio the bartenders!Royal 38 has the absolute best spicy chicken sandwich and the Espresso Martini is my go to drink! Chocolate Secrets is a hidden gem (right down the street from Royal actually!) that hand crafts specialty Chocolates that just melt in your mouth! Long time friend Stevie is now the manager & he spirit alone is worth coming back for! It will be your new favorite, our little Secret! Mellow Mushroom for the meat lovers pizza in Mckinney with a fantastic ice cream joint across the alley called Cocktail Creamery! Yup alcoholic ice cream! Yum.
For some good music & vibes, its to Stereo Live for an EDM concert! Dancing is my favorite thing to do and thats where I get to let loose.
