Meet Charmaine Chao | Owner & Maker of Charm and Chloe Collection

We had the good fortune of connecting with Charmaine Chao and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charmaine, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe that the most important factor behind the success of my small business is the quality of work and great customer service. To me quality is more than quantity. I stand behind every handcrafted item I make. Each one is made with love, passion and artistry. I believe that if you love what you do it really shows! Great customer service is very important to me. I go above and beyond for each of my client. I treat everyone the way I want to be treated. Whether you are a new or return customer, buying 1 item or a dozen you get the same great customer service from me. I get most of my business from referrals and return clients. To me that shows a lot!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love a challenge!! I guess you can say I am more of a risk taker. My clients usually show me something they would like for me to make and sometimes this is something I have never made before. It’s hard for me to say no to a project. If I have the equipment and materials to make it, I will do my best to make that item for you. It’s very challenging and I make mistakes. There are a lot of trial and error, but this is how I learn and grow! And I love it! It’s scary to take on a project that I have never made before, but I believe in myself. And of course, I stand behind everything I make. If my client isn’t happy with my work, I do my best to make it right!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Day 1 – Downtown Mckinney. There are a lot of great options as far as restaurants. Harvest, the Yard, Local Yocal, Uncork’d Bar and Grill just to name a few. And there are cute little boutiques that we can check out after. Day 2 – For upscale dining, I would take her to Dee Lincoln Prime for dinner. They have the best steak in my opinion and their customer service is phenomenal! After dinner we can walk around the Star and show her where the Dallas Cowboys practice.
Day 3 – For a more casual day I would take her to the Truck Yard at the Colony. Since we are already at the Colony we can check out the Grandscape. Maybe play a little mini golf at the Puttery, ride the big Ferris Wheel, dine at one of the restaurants and check out a live show or concert.
Day 4 – Another great place to take her is the Arboretum in Dallas.
Day 5 – For this day (last day) we would enjoy a nice meal at one of the restaurants at Legacy West and shopping.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is no one else deserving of this recognition but my husband, Charles Chao. His love, support and understanding are what keeps me going. Without him I wouldn’t be able to do what I love. He is my biggest fan!
