We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Blake and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mary, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In May 2020 duing the beginning of the quarantine and now year long pandemic, while watching a local news braodcasting in the community about travel restrictions, and elderly woman being interviewed stated “I just dont know this sciency stuff or know what news is real and what is fake news” That stood out to me becasue being a person with a science educational backgroud as well as working within the profession for many years I didn’t realize than many practices that are common place or concepts that are perceied as simple to us might not be understood as clearly for many individuals. So I saw a huge divide and sought out a way to bridge the two.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I work as a Clinical Research Associate for ICON Pharmaceuticals as well as contract with The Department of Homeland Security through FEMA. My specialization is managing clinical research studies that administer investigational medicines to patients an offering independent healthcare consult. The medicines that are in the process of approval by the Federal Drug Administration for severe diseases have to be proven to be both safe and effective before the FDA agrees to commercialize the product. It is important that I comprehend the mechanistic pathway of pathogens so that she can explain how the investigational medicine of focus is projected to benefit patients, and her duty to ensure adherence to study protocols as well as compliance of research subjects to government regulations. I have obtained a Masters Degree of Biomedical Science from Tufts University and a Bachelors Degree of Microbiology from The University of Texas Arlington and am in the process of pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Public Healthcare Policy. I hold a publication in SciVision Magazine and a certification of Public Heath through Harvard University X. I have experience with Oncology, Immunology, Diabetes, and Epidemic causing Pathogens. Previously I’ve presented at the 2018 Texas STEM Conference about the importance of vaccines in developing countries; and recently returned from the African country of Uganda where she was invited on a medical mission by Global Aid Network to deliver medical aid to rural villages that otherwise would not have had access to healthcare. Additionally, she is an advocate for public health throughout the community and aspires to reform public healthcare policy laws in Congress through the Mayor’s Star Council of Dallas where we learn about local policies and partner with industry leaders, companies, and government in topics like healthcare, education, homelessness crisis, Diversity & Inclusion, Environmental Sustainability, City Infrastructure, and Business. We then organize events that allow us to engage out in the community to serve in these best practices. Finally, I have recently been accepted into a DrPH program to attain my Doctoral Degree of Public Health in which I plan to further my as a public health advocate to state, national, and international platforms in order to ensure all people have information, access and representation to the most adequate medical and healthcare technology.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Cathy Bryant- My mentor through ACHE Texas. Without her even knowing Cathy has helped increase my self awareness and confidence by challenging me and encoureging me to go further, do more, and be better. I have never had anyone really invest into taking a deep dive into my life and career and truely want to help guide my path. I wish there was more that I could give her for her time which has been so valuable to me. In our time we formulated my letter of intent into a Doctoral Program, completed a rough draft for my company’s digigal product service, and completed an appliation for the Mayors Council. I knew that each was in itself an accomplishment but honestly, never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that I would accomplish not one, not two, but all three of our goals in less than a year! Cathy litterally glows with kindnes, wisdom, and joy on the inside and out. I hope to have her has a friend and ally for the rest of my life.
Tufts University/ Abhineet Sheoran, Charles Shoemaker, and Diane Schmidt- Tufts University’s Grafton School Campus started a new Masters of Science in Infecious Disease and Global Health program and were looking for a select group of students to pilot it. I had completed my GRE and was looking for some Masters Programs to enroll in. At the time I was aprehensive about enrolling as my undergraduate scores were not as strong as others. However, the board read and were moved by my story and gave me the opportunity to be successful. In which I graduated with an excemplorary GPA and have been able to utilize it to go onto a Doctoral Program. I especially want to thank Dr. Abhineet Sheoran for mentoring our group during our time at Tufst and after leaving. He pushed all of us to be the best and thanks to him I know how to adequately prepare for presentations, papers, and successfuly
