Meet Marty Hill: Executive Director/Pastor- Soul Flight Ministry

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marty Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marty, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Soul Flight Ministry is a transitional discipleship program for women coming out of inpatient detox and treatment programs for chemical dependency. These women are often at risk because of a lack of alternatives after their discharge from treatment. Very often, due to a lack of resources, these women must return to where they came from- abusive, dysfunctional living situations. When this happens, relapse usually occurs within six to eight weeks. Soul Flight Ministry acts as a bridge to carry them into a new life- one free of addiction, abuse, and homelessness. I have over thirty years experience working with indigent, at-risk populations within the Dallas area, and felt the calling from the Lord to initiate a ministry to break the cycle of bondage. I, myself, have been in recovery for alcoholism, and just celebrated eight years of sobriety. This enables me to connect with the women in the struggle they face. I am also supported by females, both former graduates and volunteers, who mentor and disciple the women on an even deeper level. Soul Flight helps the community by providing a very scarce resource- assistance to women who have no ability to pay. Caseworkers at treatment centers are often discouraged by the lack of options they have for their clients. Several people, at various facilities, have voiced their concerns of feeling they are simply setting the women up for failure upon discharge. However, when I present Soul Flight Ministry to them, I see the hope that it gives them to know that we provide a safe, efficacious alternative to provide women a place to succeed.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our mission statement is as follows: Soul Flight Ministry is a Christian recovery and discipleship program for women struggling with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, homelessness, and emotional disorders due to domestic abuse and violence. By offering a safe and structured sober transitional facility, that is conducive to Christian discipleship and recovery, participants will become new creations in Christ, foundationally prepared for a successful transition into the community. What excites me about this ministry is a concept I call “Conveyor Belt Evangelism”. We have a three stage program, with the last phase being identified as “Apostleship”- this means “one who is sent out”. Our participants jump on a “conveyor belt” to be taught and mentored, and then upon graduation, are sent out to be agents of change within their community. Our graduates act as an inspiration and advocate to women they encounter who are engaged in the battle of addiction and abuse. This creates a multiplication effect of freedom and hope within the world.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not really a man on the town anymore, however there are a couple of things I do enjoy in Dallas- going to hockey games and eating out. I love my Dallas Stars, so a hockey game would definitely be on the agenda. Restaurant wise, I would step out of the box and take a friend to my favorite Indian food place- Taj Mahal in Dallas.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to Shoutout to my Lord and savior Jesus Christ for freeing me from the bonds of addiction, and empowering me to go proclaim deliverance and freedom to others. My inspiration to actively engage a hurting world comes from my father, Fr. Jerry Hill, who started the Austin Street Shelter in Dallas. I would also like to thank everyone involved in Celebrate Recovery- where I found support and mentorship to fight, and win, my personal battle with addiction.
