We had the good fortune of connecting with Marquita Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marquita, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
One day in 2018 . I woke up in my historic brownstone in Brooklyn, New York City and asked God, “What should I do with the life you gave me?” His answer, “Heal with inner and outer beauty.” I worked a decade the management rat race of New York City however my career did not incorporate the beauty of healing. I was betraying my true calling of using my creativity to provide healing. As a daughter of a burn victim, I witnessed how my mother’s burns truly affected her beauty, self esteem and confidence. However, when she was able to receive plastic surgery skin grafting and skin procedures to improve the look of her scars, she healed from the inside out.
On my daily rush to the F train, I received a phone call about medical opportunities in Houston Texas, a city she had never visited, however Houston houses the largest medical center in the World. God’s words repeated to me, “Heal with inner and outer beauty.” I moved to Houston and enrolled in the University of Texas Cizik School of Nursing to start my journey towards becoming an Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Nurse.
I graduated and became a Registered Nurse equipped with the skills and steps to heal others through beauty. God’s words repeated again, “Heal with inner and outer beauty,” I studied the speciality of plastic surgery and aesthetic nursing for years. Alongside a team of surgeons, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and doctors across Houston, Texas, I began a learning journey that continues to this day. As an Aesthetic Nurse, I created my company The Face Nurse USA, No Surgery Cosmetic Solutions as a culmination of healing, beauty, nursing and medicine services to heal and create beauty. The Face Nurse USA creates results by providing you a beautiful bareFACED aesthetic results by performing aesthetic procedures, hosting aesthetic sessions at national conferences, providing resources on when to schedule aesthetic procedures, developing products for the aesthetic nurses and connecting you to other nurses who work with top notch plastic surgeons.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about.
As an aesthetic nurse, I m most proud of being able to heal someone through their own personal beauty goals. As an aesthetic nurse who is also a plastic surgery nurse, I am proud that I can use the aesthetic skills I acquired in the operating room to my patient in my treatment room.
How did you get to where you are today professionally.
I got to where I am today professionally through hard work (working 7 days a week), constant education and training, networking with experts in the field and providing exact results.
Was it easy?
The aesthetic nursing career is not easy to start however it is rewarding. I just make it look easy.
If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
I overcame challenges as an aesthetic nurse through constant training and education of new procedures, products, and taking risks.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
As an aesthetic nurse, I learned the lesson that, “Nothing is too hard, I just need more skills. More skills makes procedures easier” This lesson has moved me to stay innovative, competent and committed to my craft as an aesthetic nurse.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I want the world to know that in 2024, The Face Nurse USA has the new goal to be on the main beauty stage with Essence and BeautyCon to educate women of color on the benefits of aesthetic medicine and plastic surgery procedures.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a little itinerary from Friday to Sunday
One of my Favorite spots in the city is the Spa at The Joule, for a perfect spa day during a girls weekend, birthday weekend or a couples staycation.
For a brunch and high tea at the Adolphus Hotel in the French room with our matching dresses we picked up from Chanel in Highland Park
My favorite place to grab dinner will be at XoXo Dinning Room with matching pink and gold outfits we picked up from the Dallas Market earlier that day
A hot girl walk through the Katy trails with Lululemon fits and head to the Dallas Farmers Market for fresh items
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As a daughter of a burn victim, I want to give a Shout Out to my mother who survived a childhood fire that scarred her for life however despite it all she showed me that real beauty starts from within
As a graduate of University of Texas Cizik School of Nursing and Longhorn, I want to give a Shout Out to Dean Diane M Santa Maria and the UTHealth community, who provided multiple recommendations and advice on how to start the very difficult and competitive career of an aesthetic nurse. In addition, the UTHealth community has continually allowed me to educate and inspire future nurses of Texas.
Lastly, I would like to Shout Out my sorority sisters and friends of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, who provide endless encouragement, patronage and recommendations of the beauty needs women throughout the nation
