We had the good fortune of connecting with Marlene Covarrubias and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marlene, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, I was searching for a business that offered things my business now offers, services and products, centered around spirituality, growth, healing and herbalism. After searching for a while and not finding what I really wanted, I decided to use my own gifts, talents and offer my own services to the public as well as share my products! I wanted to create something that would last and have longevity, that helped me heal, and allowed me also help the community. My work is based around my community, helping, and pouring into it, and teaching those that are part of the community, how to heal themselves, their family and their home.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a chandler, candle making in itself is an art, it takes patience, extreme attention to detail and a lot of love! I think personally, what sets me apart from others is my candle art, how I dress my candles, my labels(which I design and print myself), and my aesthetic! I am most proud of my candle making, how many lives my magick has changed, and how I”ve been able to infuse curanderismo and brujeria into my art. It took a lot of trial and error, a lot of bad candles to learn how to perfect them as a whole. It was all about trying my best and realizing, I can always remelt and change wicks, FO or anything else, the problem was fixable, so that is what always kept me going.

I’ve learned that good things take time, it’s okay to take your time and not rush, to trust the process, that patience teaches you much more about self, and how to run a business. I’d love the world to know, all of what I create is inspired by my indigenous culture.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d absolutely take my best friend to my favorite local spots first, that would be Chihiro Sushi & bar, we’d visit Cinepolis, hit up Lone star Kartpark for some adrenaline fun, and of course visit the zoos and botanical gardens in the area! I personally love fort worth and would take my friend to visit the stockyards and some of my favorite taco places in south forth worth!

We would visit the south lake and highland park areas to visit Mesero,

Creamistry and other great food places! At the end of the week I would take my best friend to my favorite mexican restaurant which is Mexican Sugar! I am a big foodie, so most of our time would be spent at food places with good bars! The Canva Hotel in Dallas is the perfect spot for the views and drinks!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
