We had the good fortune of connecting with Marissa Basham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marissa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Photography has always been a passion of mine. I was always the one friend everyone could count on to have a camera and to photograph our memories together. When I started my business, I wanted capture memories for others. I believe having family photos are very important because you never know what the future may bring.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I mostly photograph families and maternity sessions, but I’m wanting to expand to wedding, boudoir and lifestyle newborn sessions. I’m hoping 2023 will be the year to have more variety! It was not easy to get to where I am today with my photography. When my husband and I first married, he joined the military so we moved every few years. We are home now, but it has taken a while to get my clientele back up. Honestly, this has been my most successful year and I hope I continue to grow!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take a friend downtown Fort Worth to Sundance Square! There’s so many different restaurant choices and it’s just a beautiful area to walk around. Then I would just want us to come back to my place and just hang out and drink margaritas!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family deserves all the credit! I have a wonderful husband who supports my business, and two boys that are always my models. My husband watches our boys while I go to my photo sessions. My Dad actually bought me my first professional camera when I was in High School and my passion just blossomed from there. Since I was pretty young, when I first started doing photo sessions back in 2012, my mom would tag along with me to meet my clients. Since day one, Ive always had a great support system.
