We had the good fortune of connecting with Marilyn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marilyn, what’s your definition for success?
Success to me isn’t about the money that is made, it’s about the lives you impact and the quality of life you live.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
Most proud?!??!? To be completely honest I get so excited when our members become stronger, lose weight, gain confidence, doctors telling them to keep doing what they are doing because they are becoming healthier. I want to see more people become better versions of themselves. Living life the way they were meant to.

We all have obstacles in our lives and we have to prepare our bodies to fight it. My biggest obstacle was 10 years ago, being a single mom of 2 boys diagnosed with cancer. Trying to build my business and keep a float financially. I underwent chemo once a week and radiation 5x a week. Had to be hospitalized for 6 days. The one thing the doctors told me was I was healthy and I would pull through because I was fit. This is why we train. We train our bodies and feed it properly for times when we need it to fight for us. We all have our own Cancer obstacles to go through. Whether it’s mental or physical. Bottom line is you have to get out and MOVE and live your life with purpose!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Friends, get up to Rock Fitness for yoga on Saturday morning at 930am. Afterwards, we can head to 12 stories and say hi to Marty, Sierra, and Jordan and have them make us a craft coffee or tea. We would then head to the Chaparral Trail and hike to the little bridge and come back. Then head to The Stable and grab a drink at the bar and say hi to Paula and Brian. Talk for a little. Do a little browsing and shopping at Junksperation, The Nest, and Hayloft. Grab some early dinner at Bottles and boards. Tell them next time we have to hit up Wood and Time BBQ, Over Yonder and indulge in some Hibbits Ice Cream. 😁

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The start of Rock Fitness happened 11 years ago. Another trainer and dear friend, Annette and I decided to branch off and start a bootcamp. We went back in forth with names but decided on Rock Fitness because our foundation is firmly planted on the Lord, for He is our Rock and our refuge. Which then came our slogan Fitness with Purpose, because fitness helps not only our physical well-being, but our mental and spiritual well-being too. So, Rock Fitness started with God and Annette. The continue growth and success comes from too many to list. All my Rowlett, Rockwall, Wylie, and Sachse clients encouraged me to continue to grow. They are all dear to my heart. Rock Fitness took its biggest step 3 years ago when the owner of a little gym in Downtown Farmersville asked me if I’d like the place for Rock Fitness. Becky encouraged me to take the step of having a physical building. After covid-19 the owners of Farmersville Fitness, Marshall and Shawn encouraged me to move Rock Fitness and take over. This has been the biggest challenge but rewarding to be able to impact more lives by helping them live life with quality and purpose.
