We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariah Massey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mariah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always been one to think of an idea and go for it. I love always being busy, and on the go, so I knew I could handle working after getting off of work from my full-time job. With mobile spray tanning, I knew I was moving to a smaller town outside of the city and knew there was no competition with other businesses. I just had a great feeling it would succeed in the small town. Three years later, it is still such a great side hustle for me. Now I work full-time as the Marketing Operations at Trilogy Aviation Group, do spray tans, and also am a fashion and travel influencer.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When I started my spray tan business 3 years ago, I began teaching myself about social media, watching videos, and then focusing on my personal account. Hotel Drover asked me to participate in their yearly photoshoot, and then I decided it was something I had so much fun doing in my free time. I started reaching out to and working with brands, boutiques, hotels, and more, which got things going for me in the creator world. The results take time; it is a lot of work. Many people need to understand how much work it really is, too. It gets overwhelming when you work a full-time marketing job, run your own social pages, and have a side hustle. Your social life never turns off; you must always be on top of it. That is one of the lessons I have had to learn in this life. It is a grind, but I would not trade it and all of the fun memories and friends I have made throughout my journey. A few cool things I have been able to do include working with the Texas Rangers, BuddyLove, styling the Cowgirl Channel in Double D Ranch, launching collections with boutiques, Kendra Scott events, and partnering with the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. I pursued a full-time Social Media and Marketing career about eight months ago. I love to be busy and always learn new things, so I took the leap for an Operations position in Marketing for Trilogy Aviation Group. I haven’t ever done much in the aviation world, but I am learning so much, and it is just such a cool industry to be a part of.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I will forever be grateful to my parents for supporting the route I have taken in my career path. No matter what, they have always supported me along the way, through every twist and turn. I have the best of friends that support me and my small business. My boyfriend, Haylen, is my biggest fan, as I am his. Honestly, some days, I couldn’t keep up with the craziness of my life if it wasn’t for him. When I am down or completely exhausted, he reminds me of how good I am doing and how much fun my life is. It is so great to have people around you that always push you to be the best version of yourself and that is just what I have with my people.
