We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariah & Joseph Dietrich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mariah and Joseph, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We started our mobile mechanic business back in 2020 during the shut down, which seemed crazy to most, but was perfect timing for us. We noticed the need for a mobile mechanic started becoming increasingly popular due to most shops/dealerships being so backed up due to long quarantine periods and social distancing. Most waiting rooms were closed down so having any work done on your vehicle was becoming such a hassle and inconvenience during that time. Also, many just simply didn’t want to leave their home. So, we saw a need that wasn’t being filled in our area and decided to fill it ourselves! Our business name is Maintenance Matters Mobile Mechanics, and our tag line is “Don’t Wait Till It’s Too Late Because Maintenance Matters!”.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m going to let my husband, Joseph, talk on this one since he is the sole reason of Maintenance Matters….

“My whole life has been working with my hands as a mechanic. I had odd jobs here and there as a young adult, but in 2016 I went through a program to become an aircraft mechanic. Once I graduated and received my license, I worked in aviation for a few years but during the shut down, I slowly started to realize that even though I loved the mechanic side of it, aviation wasn’t for me. So my wife and I started Maintenance Matters during a time where the need for a mobile mechanic was high.

What I’m most proud of is our ability to build a legacy from a scratch. My wife and I have everything we have today because we worked hard towards a vision that wasn’t tangible at the time but now, the results surround us daily. We are grateful for the people in our lives that have helped guide and support us along the way.

Challenges/lessons:
Learning the basics of being a business owner was our biggest challenge and still is. Knowing and accepting that you can’t do and be everything for your business, so it’s important to find the people that can fill in the gaps so you can focus on success instead of what you don’t know. We consistently seek out advice and mentorship to grow as business owners and the feedback we hear the most is, “hire what you don’t know”; which has helped us tremendously!

Our goal is to pave the way for our kids; to show them how to work hard, show up, and simply take care of people. We’d love for our business to be huge one day and a name that everyone can know and trust, but as for today, we are just serving people with integrity, kindness, and reliability.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Joseph and I came from what we call “humble beginnings” in a very small country town of Bowie, Texas. We got married at 18 years old and moved to Dallas right afterwards to start our careers. We worked, studied and hustled for 5 years in Dallas just trying to find our footing in the world. Then after we celebrated our oldest son’s 1st birthday in 2018, we moved to Mansfield. When we moved to Mansfield, we only knew two people and that was family members. Once we got settled in, I, Mariah Dietrich, started a mobile massage business because I had became an LMT while living in Dallas and wanted to start something of my own once we moved here.

Once I started my practice, I knew I had to meet people to make the business happen. So I threw myself in so many networking meetings and events and that’s where we found OUR PEOPLE. So many leaders, mentors and small business owners took us under their wings to help us be where we are today. Even now, we belong to a very successful BNI group and the members have taught and inspired us in many ways. Because of the like-minded individuals we have surrounded ourselves with, we have been able to absorb their years of knowledge and experience simply through connection and friendship.

Some that we would personally thank (out of the MANY), would be Kim McCaslin, Beth Steinke, Shannon and Ken McKnight, Casey Ragsdale, Lindsey Kuhn and Sarah Duke.
