We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Monzon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maria, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
My family and I are from Argentina. We moved to the US when I was only 3 years old. And just like so many people we came here for a better life, to survive.
My parents worked so hard to give my sisters and I the life they couldn’t have, and they did it. We’re living the dream.
Being an immigrant has come with so many challenges but I’m grateful for the life I have here and for the person I’ve become, I may not have been born here but Dallas will always be home.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always loved art. I love the process of blending colors together to make certain shades, I love how art is universal and everyone has their own way of creating their art And although I may not be so talented on paper…. My art lives through others. I love studying faces, everyone is so uniquely beautiful. My art is enhancing the beauty in others. My canvas are faces and my supplies are makeup and fancy brushes. I love the reactions I get from my clients after handing them the mirror when I’m done, I’m good at what I do and I love to help people feel good in the process.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s so many things to do in Dallas, and that’s one of the things I love most about the city. I would probably start by taking them to one of my favorite restaurants, North Italia. They have one of the prettiest views of the city along with some of the best pasta I’ve had. I would show them around downtown and then make my way over one of my favorite bars, Tiny Victories. I love the bishop arts area because everyone is so friendly and you’re bound to have a good time wherever you go.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The support system I have from my friends and family have kept me afloat. I’m very grateful for the people I have met throughout the years. As a creative I come across so many talented people in a lot of industries and it’s really special when I can work with others and create amazing content.. I’m a firm believer in what’s for me will be mine, and this includes the people I meet. The people that are meant to be in my life will simply be in it.
