We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Jackson, DDS and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is without a doubt my support system, aka my family. Without them, I would not be where I am today. Whether it be talking dental shop with my father and brother (both successful dentists themselves); strategizing marketing and advertising ideas with my longtime boyfriend; or just chatting about the day with my mother, it has been important to me to have a strong group of people around me. It sure makes the day easier when you know you have someone you can call at the end of the day, who will be your biggest cheerleader and sounding board.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I opened a general dental practice in Forney, TX, in July 2020. It definitely was not without its challenges. I was originally set to open in April, but, obviously, things did not work out that way. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most businesses were shut down in March. Several delays and uncertainties occurred during this time and it was unclear when dental offices would open and what kind of new requirements would be implemented. Sitting at home, while my office was empty, was definitely a trying time for sure. Luckily, we made it through.

At Empower Dental, we like to emphasize preventative care and education for our patients. We believe strongly that the more you know about your oral hygiene, the better it will be in the long run. As a full service general dental office, we are able to utilize new technology every day, such as 3D technology for implant planning; high quality custom mouthguards for our athletes; professional individualized whitening system; and 3Shape Trios scanning for restorations and Clear Aligner therapy (i.e. Invisalign, ClearCorrect, etc). We like to look at the full picture for our patients to help them achieve the healthy and aesthetic smile they desire.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a big foodie enthusiast. My boyfriend and I love to try new restaurants whenever we can. One of my favorite spots is Beto and Son at Trinity Groves. Their homemade guacamole and liquid nitrogen margaritas are the best! In Forney, I am a big fan of Thai Pho. Their pad thai is delicious. For desserts, there are so many options. I love Val’s Cheesecakes on Greenville Avenue. It has so much flavor and love in every slice. Recently, we tried Le Bon Temps in Deep Ellum area. The beignets were so soft and warm and the lattes were amazing. The great thing about Texas is you really can’t go wrong with food down here.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my parents. My parents have enabled me to build my own business and become my own boss at an early age, with their many sacrifices throughout the years. They have continually pushed me and supported me in my endeavors my entire life. I am truly blessed and grateful to have my parents.
