We had the good fortune of connecting with Marguerite Knowles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marguerite, what do you attribute your success to?
I think that for me, passion for what I create really drives me. I get quite excited when I have new cards because I create things that I would purchase myself as a consumer. Sometimes I find it hard to sell my creations as I want to keep them for myself!

Whenever I have had rough patches or wondered if I should just give up my business, I remember that I love painting so much that even if I gave up my business, I would still spend so much time painting, so it just makes sense to put the extra effort to sell my greeting cards. I think that if I didn’t love what I create, I would have given up a long time ago.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I create handmade watercolour greeting cards, and most recently have been attempting to create more print cards, stickers and custom stationery and invitations. I am most proud of my creativity, this year I have really been trying to expand into new products and creating new motifs, so that anyone who purchases my cards can find a design close to their hearts. Running my small business has not always been easy, especially as I do it in my free time when I am not at my full time job, sometimes I wonder if it would be easier to give up my business. But I love creating my cards so much that even on very busy days I know that my business is important to me and I love the joy it spreads. The most rewarding part of my small business is the people who come to me telling me that others have given them my cards for birthdays or holidays. It makes me so happy to know my cards are finding new homes and helping spread joy and love!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favourite places to go in Dallas are Bird Bakery in Highland Park Village, and then some shopping next door at Alice and Olivia! Also lunch at Rise No. 1 is a must!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mother! As I live mostly in London now, as this is where my full-time job is, my mother helps distribute and mail out my cards from Dallas! My business would not be where it is without her help.
