Meet Margot Martin: Owner/Founder The Ballet Burn

We had the good fortune of connecting with Margot Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Margot, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Being a business owner has taught me more than I could have anticipated. The art of networking and opening yourself up to others in a real and vulnerable way has proven to be a very helpful skill. Learning to find people who support you and care just as much about your business as you do is vital. It’s quite easy to fall into the trap where you feel you have to do everything on your own, but when you begin to learn that others want to help the game totally changes. Being a ballerina taught me the importance of adaptability, a lesson that has carried over greatly into this pandemic. We have all been pushed to new challenges throughout this time and I believe it has oddly brought us closer to each other although we haven’t been together since March. As a community, it is still possible to thrive and care for one another despite no longer having a space to call our own. I am grateful for the adaptability of my business, myself, and my community.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
On November 3rd, 2020 The Ballet Burn turns ten years old! It is hard to believe that for a decade this workout has sustained me and many others along the way. I had no idea that when I tore my ACL in 2009 that my next chapter would be this full of joy. The Ballet Burn is unique and definitely attracts unique, hard-working individuals. We all love to move and groove and reap the benefits of pushing ourselves outside the comfort zone. This journey has not been an easy one but each bump in the road has pushed me forward as a business owner. Now that classes are all online I feel like we can keep moving forward full steam ahead. I cannot wait to see what’s in store as our community grows nationally and internationally
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First things first, we’d be stopping by the Spa at the Joule for a day of relaxation. Thanks to my Bburn crew for introducing me to that one. A walk on the Katy Trail or through Klyde Warren would be on the agenda, as well as a visit to the Nasher and the DMA. Miriam Cocina has quickly stolen my heart with their Queso Verde and warm inviting staff. A drive north to visit my parents is a must as well. Their humble horse ranch is a haven outside of the bustling city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to all the women and men who make up the Ballet Burn family. From instructors to Legacy Members, first-time Bburners to Restorative Yogis, all play an incredible role in the success of our classes. It is because of you all that we continue to be inspired to create effective and fun material.
