We had the good fortune of connecting with Mareeshia Wilkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mareeshia, how do you think about risk?
Simple, no risk no reward. For as long as I could remember I have always been a risk taker. I started on my path of entrepreneurship at the age of 17. At the time when seeing woman cutting men hair was taboo, I was in the room. What did I have to loose, but what can I gain was the motto. Being courageous landed me in rooms with influence people, viral moments that pushed my artistry. Taking risk allowed me to show the world my passion of grooming and caring for those in my community.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Born into a family of beauty and fashion, you can say the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. The second barber to come after my great grandfather was Reeshia Da Barber. I have been cutting hair for over 20yrs. Collectively obtaining both barber and cosmology license . Cutting some of the world favorite entertainers from Tyga from young money to actors like David Mann. Cutting in my first film “Everything is both” starring Jason Mitchell. The Clippers has had me on large stages like Barbercon and being sponsored by large companies like KISS Cosmetics. Lights Camera action, it’s been amazing. Bless to have these amazing opportunities.
The part of my career I enjoy the most is my transformational work. Helping people who are suffering from hairloss. Creating hair pieces that restore my clients confidence. That’s the part I enjoy the most.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A night out on the town with me goes something like this. Drinks at Kenny’s bar and grill. They have the best espresso and chocolate martinis. They never let your glass get warm. Literally ! Dinner reservations at Vinos attached to Carbon. Just know the pasta and pizza.. okay everything is good there. And a spin and walk through Daisha Board Gallery just to top it off. Great food, handcrafted drink and Art is my thing.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to my mother. The woman who pushed me into this path, I have never departed from. I had an amazing mentor. She seen a talent in me I didn’t know existed until I discovered it was truly a passion of mine. Shout out to Terry. The first female barber I ever seen at 15 years old. She was the coldest Barber period. Not because she is a woman but because she understood style. She inspired me to go to barber school. My family for always supporting me. Shout to my friends who have been there to have my back. It truly takes a village and mine has been by my side this whole time. Shout out to every person who has received a “Reeshia Fade” thank you for allowing me to express my artistic expression on your crown.
