We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcus Parks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marcus, why did you pursue a creative career?
The reason that I pursued an artistic career is because an artist is who I am through my music. Playing my Trombone is what I am best at doing and I began playing at the age of 4.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Trombone player. The name of my band is Marcus Parks and Friends. I also perform with several different bands and artists as well. To name a few, The Bioniq Brass Band, Verbs Revolution and Funk Band, The Big Easy Brass Band, Miss Marcy and her Sugardaddies Band and also a host of other artist. I am also one of the last Trombone players to perform with the Legendary Mr James Brown. I have been a part of music for a very long time while working in the corporate world
as well. I had to make a very challenging decision about 5 years ago to give up the corporate world and just pursue music. That was very tough knowing that I have to create my own pay checks and continue to provide for my family. I have learned several lessons along this journey. Always put God first and always treat others how you want to be treated. Whenever anyone hears me perform, I like to allow them to escape from whatever they may be going through and make them very happy and give encouragement through music that they can make it and everything is going to be alright.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would say Freeman Cajun Cafe, The Revelers Hall, The Star District, and Grandscape are some nice areas and bars to to visit and they also have live music. I would also recommend Hard 8 Barbecue for some of the best Barbecue in the world!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to God first. Shootout to all of the great musicians in the entire DFW metroplex , venues, and vendors for giving me the opportunities to be a servant with my musical gifts!
Shoutout to my parents, grandparents, and family for raising me to always treat others how you want to be treated.
