We had the good fortune of connecting with Marc Zirogiannis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marc, what is the most important factor behind your success?
We entered the publishing sector when so many other magazines were leaving the market due to the costs of doing business. Our predominant, overarching philosophy has been that if we treated the reporting of Taekwondo stories as seriously as any type of reporting. We have tried to create a leading news publication that just happens to report on the world of Taekwondo. Our Worldwide audience has responded so enthusiastically.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the Editor-in-Chief and the host of the weekly radio program for Taekwondo Life Magazine. I have been a journalist and reporter for years as well as a 35 year practitioner of the martial arts. I was the leading correspondent of another martial arts magazine for years before jumping into running Taekwondo life Magazine. There were many challenges associated with getting quality submissions, securing advertisers, editing content, and working with designers on the cover and layout were all new to me. However, this was an exciting challenge and I met it head on with great support from our team. Here we are- six years later and growing exponentially around the globe. We have subscribers in 162 countries around the world. We are the #1 resource for Taekwondo practitioners found the world and that is so gratifying.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am just outside NYC so we have access to, literally, every kind of cultural food 24 hours a day. We would definitely spend our days seeing the cultural sites, visiting the museums, and Central Park. The evenings would start with dinner on the Lower East Side and end up in center of Broadway by the time it was dark outside but lit up all around us. This is the center of the world for us.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Grandmaster YH Park, 1988 US Olympic Coach, had a dream of publishing a high quality print magazine and enlisted me to undertake this project. He entered a shrinking sector of the market with the belief that there is always a place for quality reporting and his belief and support has motivated my success.
