We had the good fortune of connecting with Mallory & Marissa Tolbert & Hercules and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mallory & Marissa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The idea of working for ourselves was very appealing because we could forge our own career path without being constrained by someone else’s expectations. Owning our own business allows us to do what we love with more flexibility and earning potential. We wanted to start a business that would enable us to use our creative skills in the workplace and spend time with our families.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We own and operate a food and recipe blog that features creative food styling, photography, and videography. Along with crafting delicious recipes, we love creating digital content that showcases food in unique and beautiful ways.
In addition to obtaining degrees in related fields, we both have spent years honing our respective creative crafts. We’ve also both faced a lot of rejection along the way, but this rejection is largely what motivated us to start our own business.
Some of the most important lessons we’ve learned are to be persistent in hard work especially during setbacks, and to never stop learning in order to make yourself and your business better.
We want to show people that making delicious food can be done by anyone, regardless of their experience level. Food is a great way to bring people together and create memories. We strive to make those experiences accessible to all people.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our favorite things to do in DFW include: -Going to Ranger’s games at the ballpark
-Eating burgers at Rodeo Goat
-Exploring Grapevine Main Street
-Seeing the views from Reunion Tower in Dallas
-Shopping at Sundance Square
-Getting tacos at Velvet Taco
-Visiting the Fort Worth Zoo
-Concerts at Billy Bobs
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to give a special thanks to our family, who has been a constant support system from the beginning. We couldn’t have done this without them!
