Meet Makesa Stovall | Custom Hat maker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Makesa Stovall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Makesa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I am a lover of hats and I feel like most hats are so plain! I started buying hats for myself and realizing they needed a little spice to them. I started designing them to add flare and originality. I alway appreciate the aspect of having one of a kind things. Hats are very trendy right now and everyone is looking for a more individualized look these days. Everyone wants to stand out. What better way to stand out by wearing a custom hat!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always been artistic throughout my life. I like arts and crafts, painting, designing, anything where I can use my creativity. I first started pursuing art. I am an abstract artist when I’m not working full time as a hygienist. I have an eye for the creative process and I don’t like buying things I can make myself. I am a self taught artist and branching out into my hat business has really expanded my mind with creativity. I love my job so much I think I work 24/7, but they say you never work a day in your life if you love what you do! Getting to this point has not been easy, but it has been worth it. You have to work hard in life to get the things you want the most. Owning your own business is really hard! Especially when almost everyone has something to offer. Hard work is good for the soul and I wouldn’t change it for anything. You appreciate things more when you have to work for them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would venture to Ft Worth. We would see the attractions in the stockyards, stop by Billy Bobs for a country concert, and eat a lot of yummy food while we’re there. I love the country scene. I would want to take her to a local rodeo after shopping all day and ending the night with a bonfire. I’m a chill kind of person so that seems like the perfect way to spend a weekend.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not have been able to do this without my sweet hubby and dad! They have been rock solid through my entire process! They been to shows with me, drove long nights to get to destinations, bought me a trailer, and really invested in me! They are always behind me pushing me to better myself. They are my cheerleaders and constantly so proud of who I am becoming. My brother had also been a major inspiration for me. He has his own business and continues to inspire me to push on with my goals and take risks.
