We had the good fortune of connecting with Mahfuzur Rahman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mahfuzur, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have had the blessing of practicing as a dentist for almost 8 years now. During that time I practiced mostly as an associate dentist at other offices until last December when I started my boutique private practice in Frisco. Private equity has been changing the landscape of dentistry in the US and small privately owned offices are slowly becoming a rarity. Working for these large chains I often felt restrained in my ability to provide quality, ethical and conservative care. Having my own business has allowed me to dictate how we take care of patients without any compromises. I often explain to patients that we are like a small family owned coffee shop vs. a large chain, we only answer to our patients instead of shareholders. We are always striving to make our patient experience the center fold of our business because we know that is our North Star

What should our readers know about your business?
Here is a shocking statistic, over 50% of Americans state they have dental anxiety and dread going to the dentist. The dental field hasn’t changed much in terms of patient care and we definitely haven’t taken steps to improve the patient experience. What sets Frisco Dental Studio apart as a dental office is that we are a safe haven for folks with anxiety because I have a very personal history with dental anxiety. Growing up, I had many traumatic dental experiences and those experiences have shaped how I practice dentistry at my office.

Frisco Dental Studio doesn’t look like a dental office, I intentionally built it to remove a lot of the unpleasant smells, sounds and sights that are common in most dental offices. Our space is warm, inviting, features lots of natural light and plants. We strategically use aromatherapy throughout the space to create a zen spa vibe and block out the smell of medicines and cleaning agents. We give every patient a comfort menu to curate their visit with warm pillows, blankets, hot towels, noise cancelling headphones. We are a partner gallery for the Visual Art Guild of Frisco so we feature art from local artists and do pop up events to showcase their work. By bringing art into a dental office we are removing the stigma of the dental space and making it more approachable and appealing.

Our space along with our incredible team are the reasons for our success. Frisco is one of the most saturated markets in America to open a dental business. We opened our doors in Dec 2022 and we have been fully booked ever since. Patients are craving a personalized dental experience and they love that we are able to curate their visit based on their anxieties and past negative experiences. We are excited to be disrupting our profession and innovating the patient care experience!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love taking friends to the older quirky neighborhoods of Dallas like Deep Elum, Knox/Henderson, Bishop Arts etc. I grew up in Seattle and love the outdoors so whenever possible I like to show friends that DFW has some incredible nature gems. Arbor Hills is one of our favorite places to take friends to explore the trails and see the native Texas wildlife.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate our shoutout to my incredible team, we owe our immense success to their hard work and constant dedication to the business. From day 1 they have bought into the vision for the practice and have pushed us to get better every single day. They truly embody what it means to deliver excellent customer service and I am grateful that I get to run a practice with such incredible individuals!
