We had the good fortune of connecting with Maggie McClure and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maggie, how do you think about risk?
I think that risk taking is absolutely critical in life and especially while pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. I was always a very careful person (who always followed all the rules) growing up but as soon as I became an adult I realized I was going to have to take risks and get uncomfortable to make progress. I’ve stepped out in faith time after time after time throughout my life and for the most part it’s always worked out for the best.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a performing singer/songwriter/musician and in recent years have enjoyed spending more time in front of the camera and also behind the scenes from a production standpoint in the film industry. I started out as a solo artist and have released 4 solo albums, a handful of holiday albums with my husband Shane Henry, and now our debut album together as our new band The Imaginaries. Perseverance is my middle name. I’m a real believer in creating opportunities and paving a path. I’ve gotten to where I am today from a lot of hard work and out of the box thinking and strategizing (and dreaming big). Just like so many others, the road to where I am today has been anything but easy. I’ve overcome challenges by deciding to stay positive and not give up. I also lean into my faith, family and friends when I’m experiencing trials. I’ve learned so many lessons along the way but the main ones have been to listen to your gut as it’s always right; find a way to do what you know what you’re meant to do; and a hard lesson to have learned is that nothing is for sure until after it’s happened. I want the world to be truly encouraged and uplifted by my music and story.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve always loved Dallas. My very favorite restaurant is Fireside Pies (multiple locations) as they have amazing gluten free pizza! I also love Reverie Bakeshop in Richardson. The State Fair of Texas and The Guitar Sanctuary are some of our favorite places to play and hear live music!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have had some amazing mentors and supporters throughout my life and career. I want to dedicate my shoutout to my amazingly supportive family and husband Shane Henry.
