We had the good fortune of connecting with Magda Ivette Trujillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Magda Ivette, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
In life (at least for me) it’s all about taking chances or risks! I’ve always believed in taking risks with my career and goals in life. If you don’t, you’ll never know what could have been. I don’t like to be complacent or stagnant in life. That’s one reason, why I take risks., e.g. with leaving a job, it’s always for something better that will help me advance in my career. However, I always analyze everything and pray to God about it before anything. I know he’ll always direct my steps and make it happen for me, if it’s meant to happen! Of course, that being said, you also have to be able to put in the work if you’re going to take a risk, the dream only works if you do! One big risk recently that I took was quitting my corporate job and started my own business P.I.E.S LLC, a waste management company. I did this, because I wanted to become an entrepreneur and build a great business that will create generational wealth for my family.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are P.I.E.S LLC, a waste management company. How we stand out from the rest of the competition is we are family owned but not only that my family comes from years of waste management experience. We work hard as a team and pride ourselves with the work we do, we care about the environment and our customers satisfaction is a top priority. As we take the time to listen and understand our customers to map out a plan that meets their needs. We treat our customers more than just a number, we treat them like family. The most exciting part for me of doing this job, is that I get to do it with the people I love: my family. The road to get where we’re at today wasn’t easy, of course, we had to plan to start this business and invest so we didn’t have to take out any loans and with many years of saving and sacrificing we were able to create P.I.E.S LLC in 2021. I think the hardest part of starting the business is being patient and having dedication, because you are hoping to want to start getting all these jobs right away. However, it takes time, work and a lot of hustling for you to start getting clients and money in. Through that I learned, that I had to really put myself out there to promote and market our business. Google Ads was a good resource for leads but word of mouth is were a majority of our business came from. Once I researched the best ways to promote and we had enough exposure, P.I.E.S, has been thriving ever since!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My itinerary for the week would be below:
Places to Eat: Sugar Factory, Brasao’s Steakhouse, Eately, Revolving Sushi, Fish n Tails, Salsa Verde, Serious Pizza and Terry Black’s BBQ. I included a variety of different foods and places based on the mood for the day.
Breakfast places to eat: First Watch, Yolk, Hero, Public School, and Anvil Pub
Places to go drink: Vidorra’s, Flying Saucer, Te Deseo, Texas Live, Bottle Blonde, Punch Bowl Social and XOXO Dining
Places to visit: Downtown and Uptown, Legacy West, Northpark Mall, Buc-ee’s, Klyde Warren Park, Fort Worth Zoo and The Star
Places to Hangout during nighttime: Club Vivo, Medusa Dallas, Stirr, OT Tavern, 3606 Club and New West
In my view these are the most interesting and exciting places to check out.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family Trujillo, Urquiza, Toledo, Vega and my husband. They have always been supportive with everything I do, and I couldn’t have accomplished everything I have without them!
