We had the good fortune of connecting with Madeline King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madeline, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After having been a stay at home mom to my four kids for over six years, I felt it was the right time to channel my creativity and passion into a new venture. My dream has always been to have a business that not only stands out but also enriches peoples’ lives. I discovered Kava, a traditional drink that acts as an alternative to alcohol without all of the negative aspects.I felt myself being pulled by a strong inner calling to offer something truly beneficial, and the understanding of a growing need for a sober alternative to alcohol in the event industry. Many events focus on alcohol-based services, and that left a gap for those seeking a more mindful, relaxing, and community oriented alternative. I felt compelled to bridge that gap with a unique experience that can enhance a multitude of events in a meaningful way. Kava, with its calming and social benefits, seemed like the perfect solution! Ever since I’ve said yes to this dream, the stars have aligned, doors that were closed are now open, and the sky’s the limit!
What should our readers know about your business?
Kava Kava Mobile Bar helps support and enhance local events, by bringing a unique offering to places that might not otherwise have access to such experiences. We are the first completely mobile Kava bar in Texas!! We help people connect in social settings like festivals, community events, or private parties, which fosters a sense of community and belonging. Unlike alcohol, Kava doesn’t impair cognitive function or coordination. This means that while people can unwind and enjoy themselves, they remain clear-headed and capable of engaging in meaningful conversations and activities! In summary, by offering kava as a relaxing and socially enjoyable alternative to alcohol, Kava can contribute to a reduction in drunk driving incidents, enhance overall community safety, and support responsible social behavior!
Was it easy? Nope! Starting Kava Kava Mobile Bar has been a significant undertaking that has involved taking many risks and investing considerable time, money, and effort. Kava is not as widely known or understood as other beverages like coffee or alcohol. Introducing kava to a community involves educating people about its benefits and cultural significance. Starting a new business will always come with risks, but with Kava these risks are all amplified because I am navigating a relatively new and niche market.
I have a very strong conviction in the unique value that Kava Kava Mobile Bar brings to the community, contributing to sobriety and wellness. This belief keeps me motivated and focused on my long-term vision, even when faced with challenges or moments of doubt.
By bringing kava to various events, I strive to create spaces where people can connect and celebrate without the pressures of traditional drinking culture. Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to a broader cultural shift towards more conscious, sober socializing, making it easier for individuals to choose a more mindful approach to their social interactions.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
DFW is a vibrant area with something for everyone to enjoy! Meow Wolf, Perot Museum, Fort Worth Botanical Gardens, and Six Flags would be the perfect places to have a fun day! And then, as an avid crystal collector, we’d have to check out some crystal and metaphysical shops! Power of the Rainbow, the Enchanted Forest, Crystal Source, and the Crystal Moon would be the top ones on the list! To top it off we’d go Simply Fondue and get an after-dinner coffee from Summer Moon!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family! Their unwavering belief in my vision and hands-on help have been instrumental in turning a dream into reality. From the very beginning, my sister has been a constant source of motivation. Whether it’s been brainstorming ideas, setting up the bar, or crafting drinks for customers, her involvement has been invaluable! Equally important has been the support from my husband and family. Their positive energy and hands-on help have not only eased the challenges of starting a new business but have also made the journey more enjoyable and fulfilling. Without my family my dream of bringing Kava to events and gatherings would never have come to fruition!
