We had the good fortune of connecting with Mackenzie Pineda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mackenzie, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My business name is “Be Held”. This came about as I was picturing what I wanted my Ministry to be called and I had the perfect image come to mind. When I think about how I want to make others feel and what others would experience with my ministry, I wanted it to be inviting, wholesome & gentle and uplifting. The image I pictured was a women crawling into Jesus’ lap and him holding her….Consoling her, encouraging her, uplifting her, giving her strength & peace. The idea of “Be Held” in my doula services is when a women is in labor and reaches a breaking point or when he body is so tired she feels like she can’t continue, we can crawl in to the lap of Jesus and just Be Held. Allow him to carry you through to the end.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am Birth Doula which means I offer educational, emotional, physical and spiritual support during labor and delivery. I also teach women how to cope with labor using various tools & ideas as well as what strategies are best for delivery and postpartum.
I call my birth work my Ministry! This is a work that God has allowed me to do and it’s such an honor to get to serve women in prenatal, labor/delivery and postpartum.
What sets me apart is my faith in Jesus. I invite the Lord into every birth space and remind the Mama in labor that Jesus is present and we can worship Him through labor. Playing Christian Music during labor is not only calming but beautiful as I watch the whole room praise Jesus for life, health and safety.
I have worked very hard to get to where I am. My very first birth I only charged $100 because I didn’t believe in my capabilities and didn’t feel as though I could charge more than that. I have since gain my confidence, expanded my knowledge and believed in my abilities to help clients in labor.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When our friends & family come to town we without fail take them to LSA Burger for a cheeseburger and parmesan fries & then go get homemade ice cream from Beth Marie’s!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to thank my husband for supporting me in getting my certification as well as being flexible with crazy birth schedules! I would love like to thank Abbey Barnosky for her friendship and mentorship along the way! I’m so thankful for all the support and encouragement I have received all the way and I’m so blessed I get to do this.
