We had the good fortune of connecting with Machaia Amaré and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Machaia, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Patience. I’m still in the process of learning it. A lot of times we can find it easy to become discouraged when things aren’t going exactly how we envisioned it. I’ve struggled with that part the most, but over time with consistency and dedication I notice when I put continuous effort into my craft, it blooms. (No pun intended) Patience in this has been the greatest lesson I’ve learned since starting my business.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I hold my love for florals very close to my heart! I’ve always picked up forms of art since high school, whether it be painting, writing, customizing etc. But nothing has called me the way becoming a florist has. I still have so much to learn but I know in due time this is a craft I’ll master because I refuse to let it be anything less than amazing. I want the world to know if you want it, you can have it. I’ve faced many adversities especially within the time since I’ve started my floral business BUT that’s the patience part. Master patience and you can master life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My all time favorite spots in Dallas include a lot of hidden gems, one being the SOVA micro hotel, with their hidden speakeasy Room 520. If not there, you can find me at The Exchange chowing down on some birria tacos from Chilangos!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve been blessed with people who root for me no matter what season I’m in, and I’m indefinitely grateful for them, but the person who pushes me the most is my sister. A lot of the time I question where I would be if not for her, she unknowingly pushes me to keep experiencing this life and strive to be the softest version of myself. Sissy loves you Nasiyah!
