We had the good fortune of connecting with M K and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi M, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose to pursue a creative career because I’ve always been told that I have many talents. I enjoy putting my creativity into my candles and hearing the loving feedback that I receive. I had a great job that I left to start a business because I felt myself getting depressed not being able to pursue a steady income doing something that I love. I knew then that I had to make a change and not let my talents go to waste. Tough times in business taught me to expand my options, so I thought of myself and decided to give others the opportunity to be creative by adding Candle Making Experiences to my business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Fragrances That Last was my dad’s business, in which he only sold body fragrances. After he passed away in 2016, my family helped me relaunch in 2018. I also added CTL (Continuing The Legacy). Upon relaunching I decided to go a different route and include candles. Making candles and having something that was meaningful to me, helped me get through a really dark place. I’m proud to say that I was able to use my creativity to not only help me through a tough time, but it also made other people happy and showed me that my talents can provide for me. Running a business is a big risk. It’s easy to get a standard job and receive consistent income. It’s hard taking a leap on faith, providing, not knowing how sales will go each day, and paying over head cost. I got where I am today business wise with the help of God and my supporters. Honestly, it can get overwhelming but he always make a way and use my supporters to show me that i got this. They really keep me going. The biggest lesson that I’ve learned is to stay consistent, open to constructive criticism, and put my faith in succeeding above my fears of failing.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in DFW to eat at is the Crab Station (omg I’m telling y’all my secret spot). If anyone one comes to visit, that’s the first place that we’re going! Sweet Treats by Capri would be the next stop because her cakes are GOOD! They literally melt in your mouth! I’m a foodies girl so we’d probably eat more than anything! Of course, we would have to include self care so I we would have to book a facial at Rosies Beauty. Afterwords a Candle Making Experience at Fragrances That Last!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family and customers. Thank’s to you all I’ve had the courage to continue own, stay innovative, and believe in myself to constantly grow a great business.
