We had the good fortune of connecting with Luz Salas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luz, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
By opening my own business at a young age, I was introduced to the reality of the real world in entrepreneurship. I have endured and been taught things that no one else talks about while working on being your own boss, but the most important and eye opening lesson that my business has taught me at 18 is that you have to be willing to put in the work that no one else desires to do. The late nights and early mornings, the doubts, the risks, the obstacles that come your way & the not knowing if you’ll ever achieve your goals is the reality that we all face behind the scenes at some point in our journey of being entrepreneurs. There’s so much that society doesn’t know about entrepreneurship nowadays, it’s a debating topic that each person has their point of view on, but also a topic that is being known about more in our generation. In the end, it’s a risk that is not easy, but worth it in the long run. Several people could start off and be willing to go through with it, but only a few actually stay and face the challenges.
What should our readers know about your business?
To think that if my younger self hadn’t been so nosey and intrigued in my mother’s business, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Thanks to that, my parents were able to introduce me to the world of networking marketing that was connected to the nutrition company they were in. As I grew up, I started to learn more day by day and started getting the concept of what it truly was and at the age of 14, I signed up with her in the marketing business. After that I started learning everything, whether it was the basics, network marketing plan, or just knowing how to make a drink, I learned it all from my mother. Fast forward 4 years later, I decided that this was something I wanted to do with my life and made the decision to go full time into the marketing business and also open up a smoothie shop of my own which was another way of earning income in the company. I was able to graduate high school early and save up for my new journey that I was about to start. Has it been easy? No, there has been obstacles, trials, challenges, you name it, on my journey of opening my own business. I had to mature and do the things no one is willing to do, especially at a young age, but it has been so worth it. Knowing I get to wake up, work at my own business on my own time/schedule, offer my community a healthier option, and work on my future is something I have always wished for. What keeps me going during hard times is that I am working on my own dream rather than working for someone else’s.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A fun and exciting thing to do in the city would be going to the Reunion Tower. It’s such a fun experience seeing how big and busy the city actually is! Another fun place to go would be to the Dallas zoo and Dallas Arboretum, it’s a fun activity that lets you enjoy nature with your loved ones.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The two people that deserve recognition in my story are my parents, the ones that went through thick and thin with me. My father has been such a huge role model in this part of my life, he is the person who pushes me to my potential even when I feel I have no more to give and the person who encourages me and makes me look at the bright side of my situations/problems. My mother has been the person who has been with me through it all, even when it felt like the whole world was against me. She is the person who introduced me to the world of entrepreneurship and taught me the basics, she made me realize that there’s more to life, and for that I will forever be thankful. She never fails to be by my side and always knows the right words to say when I’m in need of comfort. All my hard work so far has been dedicated to them and I will continue to hard harder to give them back what they have given me throughout my whole years.
