Meet Luna Flor | Aerialist, Fire Performer & Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Luna Flor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Luna, why did you pursue a creative career?
When I was 16 my first job was a local pizza store till I was 18, my jobs always kinda involded a type of art form that was more out of the norm for some, such as Adult Novelty Stores like Gas Pipe, Dragons Breath, Electrique Boutique, Local Gentlemans Clubs and even opened my own Smoke Shop, Labyrinth in September 2012, only to close shop & switch to online for short time in late 2017. I worked in the Novelty industry for most of my late teens to late 20s, met my husband working at Gas Pipe which then led me to meeting his now sister in law who brought me to my first aerial class back in late 2010
I could probably say confidently that a creative career was always in the books for me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart from other local aerialist and fire performes in the area is not only the conjuction of the two elements air & fire, professionalism and dedication to be fearful and push the limits. I started off like most who dable in fire aerials with two to four wicks connected to the aerial hoop.
If needed more… with 12 years of aerial experience & 7 years fire, I continued to push the limits of my abilities to the max adding up to 8 wicks for my first fire lyra performances.
I brought this act with my fire troop THE HELL DOLLS at SCREAMS HALLOWEEN PARK, October 2022 along within a 32minute Fire & Aerial Show, knowing the following year we would be rehired – we revamped our acts and started preparation!
This past October 2023 if you came out to watch the show[THANKYOU] you got to see my favorite new aparratus the Aerial Fire Umbrella…that had TWELVE wicks in total!!!

What did learn? Welp. Opening weekend in Texas was 95°+ weather, plus 12 wicks burning above my head creating a dome. Yep..

Heat stroke.
I was able to complete our last show of the night as the sun went down but with a new apparatus, new act, comes new safety plans and procedures. 1000 thank yous to our 2023 Hell Dolls Fire Safety crew.

I had alot of help, chances, connections being the performer I am today.
Ive had the pleasure of working with big name artist such as NERVO, GUCCI MANE, DEAD MUA5, Slander, Maria Reyes of Dallas HouseWives Private event and much much more!

Lessons Ive learned are, dont sell yourself short, say no when it doesnt benefit you. I am not only an aerialist or a wife, im also a mother.
Working as a freelance artist basically means at midnight on NYEs while your tucking your little ones in at night, my son is being tucked in safe by his grandma. On NYE when your kissing your significant other a Happy New Year , my husband is watching me from below blowing me a kiss in my apparatus. I love my job. But sometimes missing the little moments & even big ones can sting hard.
My rates pay for not only my living and well being but my sons.

So when clients come at me saying “so & so will do it for this much or for exposure” then I say..
“go ahead”. I have clients who will book me, respect my rates and my experience to make their event magical.
KNOW YOUR WORTH BECAUSE YOU ARE WORTH IT.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First off. Deep Ellum is my place, memories, food and my emo soul to become full.
Love love THE RUINS, best Frozen Pain Killers in town, dont forget to try their tacos or anything on the menu is delicious.
Any Interactive Art Installation is a must.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely! I love going back to my roots, I whole heartly wouldn’t be the aerialist, instructor or student I am today if it wasn’t for my mentors. Special thanks to aerial instructors Kimberly Thurmond former Mrs Texas 2018 & Christopher Roberson also known as Icky Muffin, last but not least Shelly Courtney who was my first Master Instructor for my first Lyta Teachers Certification.
