We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucie Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lucie, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Time management, organization, and prospective planning have helped me succeed. I started looking into content creation with food videos, vlogs, and yelp reviews early in college and since then have graduated. I managed a full class schedule, several extracurriculars, and leadership roles while writing Yelp reviews and making reels both with content related to food and daily vlogs. Google Calendar and Notion have been my go-to for planning and scheduling time to do everything .

Each Sunday, I’ll sit down and plan everything I have in the week while also thinking ahead to exams, events, hangouts, etc. From there, I would schedule time to work on hobbies like content creation and time to work, study, etc. Then, each day after a 5:30 AM gym session, I’ll sit down and make goals for the day, time blocking and setting aside blocks for everything. That has helped me be able to dedicate time to all my endeavors artistically, academically, professionally, and personally!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I recently graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience, minor in psychology and with Summa Cum Laude, Collegium V, and Brain & Behavioral Major Honors.

Currently, I’m applying to medical school, and come August, I will be participating in the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program in Dong Thap, Vietnam. A lot of my success comes from my supportive family and also the motivation to give back to the world and make a positive impact in any way that I can. In difficult times, I would constantly remind myself that what I was going through would be something small compared to the impacts I would make not only as a future doctor but as a person.

Throughout my undergraduate studies, I first worked as a Certified Pharmacy Technician at CVS, where I built some of my professional skills. Then. I was involved as a Vice President for UT Dallas Circle K International (CKI), Lieutenant Governor for North Texas’ Central Plains Division, and District Governor for Texas and Oklahoma. These roles helped me train and learn from hundreds of student leaders, not only in Texas-Oklahoma but around the world. From there, these skills transferred into other extracurriculars. I volunteered frequently with the Comets Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) at UT Southwestern Clements University Hospital and was Co-President for the organization. Additionally, I did research both at UTSW in the Geriatrics Division and on my campus in the Healthy Social-Emotional Development Lab. Coupled with my love of learning, I loved mentoring others, serving as both a Teaching Assistant for Introductory Biology Laboratory, Neuroanatomy, and Anatomy & Physiology I as well as an Organic Chemistry Tutor in Chemistry Clinic at UT Dallas.

As a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant, I will be working at Dong Thap University, helping students with pronunciation, listening, and speaking English so that they can pursue more opportunities outside of Vietnam. Upon my return, I will hopefully matriculate into medical school to be a geriatrician, helping the older adult community!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It depends on what they are in the mood for. I would start the morning with breakfast either at Frogg Coffee Bar & Creperie in Allen, TX or Fairview Farmers in Allen. Then we would go to Stonebriar for shopping. Miniso and Uniqlo are my must-go tos. Then explore the small Asia town on Warren Pkwy in Frisco for some food and drinks. I love the matcha at Premium Matcha Cafe Maiko. Then after a good meal, definitely hitting up Daiso and Teso for some cute plushies, Japanese stationery and home goods. For dinner, I would go to K-Town in Carrollton going to AYCE sushi at Sushi Kushi then going to Red Straw for their Jasmine Green Sea Salt Cream and maybe Wicked Snow for bingsu!

Some places to go see would be Grandscape, NorthPark, the Dallas Arborteum, and some local trails.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, my family has played an integral role in all I do. My dad loves doing photography as a side hobby and my mom is literally the best chef ever. She cooks for me and is the main reason I have such a love for food. From there, I kind of merged those two things (photography and food) and looked to doing food reviews to helping the community. After a little while, I wanted to explore how I could reach more people and turned to Instagram reels. My brother, Augustine, has also always been my hype person, helping me review my content, choosing out music, and so much more!

Circle K International and Kiwanis have been a huge part of my success. Throughout high school I built my early leadership experience in Key Club and continued that in Circle K International which is a global student-led collegiate service organization. From there I’ve gained skills from time management to project planning to graphic design to professional communication, presenting, and so much more!

That has been my foundation for all my other extracurriculars, creative ideas, and content. Additionally, Dean Skinner from UT Dallas has always been a huge supporter of my food account which motivated me to try more places, produce more videos, etc. Lastly, all my friends have supported me: Tisha, An, Nhi, Tinh-An, and William to name a few. They’re always down to go to places to try and put up with me while I’m taking tons of pictures and videos of the food, helping me get the perfect lighting, and being my motivation to keep continuing.
