We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorena Vanbeuren and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lorena, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always wanted to start my own business and be an inspiration to other women. During the pandemic I was laid off, so I decided to take a leap of faith and start my own business. Most women love jewelry but I wanted to make jewelry that stands out, something unique. After a lot of thought I decided to make handmade jewelry that would be fun, unique, and bring out women’s natural beauty. Once I made up my mind to start Lorena Jewelry, I found the perfect material: clay. I didn’t know much about clay at fist but I love learning new things and creating things from scratch.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets Lorena Jewelry apart from others is the level of care and detail that is put into each earring. Each pair is different and unique because it’s handmade. Although I have been in business for only 9 months, I’ve accomplished more than I could’ve ever imagined. I started out not knowing anything about running a business but did a lot of research and learned from trial and error. I’ve put a lot of work and dedication into Lorena Jewelry and I’m very proud of what it’s become, and excited to keep growing and learning. It took a lot to get to where I am today and it hasn’t been easy by any means. There are many challenges that come with having a business, consistency being one of them. Another challenge was learning to manage time while being a wife and having a full-time job, a personal life, and working hard to make a business grow. Between balancing time management and consistency, it can sometimes be very overwhelming, but I would not change it for anything. At the very beginning I knew this was not going to be easy, but I always think of the bigger picture and keep pushing because I believe in myself, and everyone who supports me encourages me to keep going and not give up. Through this journey I have learned that we are able to accomplish anything we set our minds to. We are the only ones who can stand between us and our dreams. I want to encourage women to believe in themselves and turn their dreams into a goal. Nothing comes easy, but if there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that you never know what you’re capable of doing until you do it! I hope that Lorena Jewelry can inspire many beautiful women and that when you wear a piece of our jewelry, it reminds you of how beautiful, unique, and powerful you are!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite places to eat at are in Frisco and Plano. I very much enjoy having brunch at Mexican Sugar in Plano and dinner at City Works. If looking for entertainment and a great time I love going to Legacy Hall, this place has multiple different types of food, drinks and live music! It is so much fun. We recently discovered Andretti in The Colony, we were there for hours and I will recommend going there. They have indoor karting, laser tag, arcade games and amazing food, all in one place.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My customers, husband, and family deserve the biggest shoutout. I have only been in business for 9 months and the support that I have received from my customers has been overwhelming. They are the reason why I keep creating and I thank them so much for all their support on my journey. My husband was my #1 supporter from the get-go. I came to him with the idea of starting my own business and he was on-board with me 100 percent. He knew this was a big dream come true for me and has stood by my side every step of the way. He has stayed up late many nights helping me finish orders and pack them, and he takes them to the post office (jokingly he has been named “the mailman”). My family has also been a huge part of my success, they believed in me and continue to support me and my business and I could not do this without any of them!
