Meet Lisa Slimak | Sugar cookie artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Slimak and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have a full-time career as a supervisory paralegal and while I love my career it doesn’t allow me to use my creative side. In the past I’ve used photography as my creative outlet and in 2020 at the beginning of Covid I was looking for a way to utilize my creative side while having lots of time at home. I quickly became obsessed over custom decorated sugar cookies! I started obsessively watching videos, finding tutorials and learning everything I could about sugar cookie decorating. A lot of people wonder and will ask me after working all day how do you find the time to do cookies in the evenings and at night and my answer is that decorating sugar cookies is more like therapy to me. It’s relaxing and it full fills a part of me that I can’t get from my 9 to 5 job.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the owner and a sugar cookie artist at Le-Marie Cookiery. I am most proud of the relationships I have made with my customers. I believe that the positive relationships have contributed to the success of my business. I love when I get a communication from somebody new and they tell me that they were referred to me by one of my previous clients.
It brings me joy and I get excited to be a very small part in events in peoples lives that can bring them so much joy (weddings, birthdays, engagements, babies, etc.)
Le-Marie Cookiery strives to give each customer a positive experience.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my gosh, we’re in Texas where there are so many things going on all the time! My family visits from Ohio so we always take advantage of our weather & find something outside. I’ve lived in Texas for 8 years & we’ve never been to the same place twice!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my family and friends for always supporting me through my cookie journey. Especially my husband who always goes along with all my crazy ideas and is a master taste tester among other things!
However, My shout out goes to my mother-in-law, Saynie, who unfortunately is no longer with us. She was the person who pushed me the most to start my Cookie business. Every time I would see her she would asked me about my cookies and if I started my website or started selling my cookies yet. She would always encourage me and tell me “you need to sell these, do you know how much you could sell these for!” Anybody who knows my mother-in-law knows she was a picky eater and most restaurants that she would go to you would hear how she didn’t like the food. So when Saynie was telling me that my cookies were good I knew I was onto something! She always gave me the best ideas and suggestions and I often would joke with her and tell her that she needed to be in charge of my marketing. Her encouragement that kept me going along the way is definitely missed.
