We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We (myself and Mary) are a mother-daughter duo who started making smoothies and juicing for our own weight loss and health goals. After noticing that the cold-press juice and smoothie options were limited, The Juice was born! The Juice – Smoothie & Juice Bar was formed to bring health-conscious choices to Denton that also taste amazing. The handcrafted juices are made with love, no added sugar, and organic produce. The juice options on the menu at The Juice focus on wellness while being delicious!

What should our readers know about your business?
The Juice – Smoothie & Juice Bar is a mobile juice company based in Denton, TX, but we service a large area in North Texas including Lewisville, Carrollton, Argyle/Northlake, and Plano. We offer fresh, cold-pressed juices that are all natural with no added sugar or artificial preservatives. Our juices are great for your health and wellness, but what sets us apart are the flavor and excellent customer care! We have been actively in business for only 5 months, and we have been very successful. The residents of Denton specifically have been extremely supportive and welcoming!

The road has been a constantly winding road which forces us to adapt quickly! When we first started the business, we thought we would be going straight into a store-front. We found out rather soon that accessing funding isn’t quite that simple. It was a struggle that many new business owners face along with the big question – where do we start? Now that we have started, business has been great, but we face inventory issues and rising costs just like other businesses but without corporate backing or a large amount of capital.

We have taken time to perfect each recipe, and we even modify them to fit our customers’ feedback. Feedback – good or not so good is always welcome, as this is the only way that a business can grow and improve! Additionally, we proudly promote our satisfaction guarantee – if our customers are not satisfied, we will work diligently to resolve the issue with a replacement or refund!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When our family came to town, the first place we went for breakfast was Old West Cafe! Breakfast is never a miss at Old West! After that, we walked The Square and popped into the various shops there including The Mug (instead of Chestnut Tree). While they were here, we ventured to Eastside to hit up the food trucks, Red’s Yard, Clara’s Kitchen, heard great music at Dan’s Silverleaf, and Harvest House. When it was time to just relax, we spent time at Lake Lewisville and the parks on Windsor!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate our shoutout to Mollie Herrera – owner of Denton Spin Company. We met Mollie at another company’s ribbon cutting when we first started out. Her first words to us were “Your juices are freaking amazing, and I want to sell them out of my studio.” When Mollie’s studio opened, that’s exactly what she did! Since then, we’ve been selling our juices there, had various pop-up events, and even gotten into taking spin classes! Thank you, Mollie!
