We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Arendell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Jumping first, then building my parachute on the way down.

My first bite of the entrepreneurship bug took place in the 7th grade. I remember having the clever idea of buying highlighters in the store and selling them to my classmates for .25 above cost. It worked. I was hooked!

Little did I know at that time that purchasing at retail and selling above that was illegal. However, this diving in head first would prove a personality trait over many years since that have landed me in the midst of great successes, in addition to some monumental failures.

As an integrative health and fitness coach of over 33 years, and having a heart and passion to serve women in perimenopause and menopause, being willing to take risks has allowed me to be on large platforms and given me a reach I don’t believe I’d currently have had I approached things more cautiously.

Fear of failure never slowed me down for very long. For me to reach as many women as possible with my mission of making their “Act 2” their best years ever through intentional lifestyle shifts, slowing down their rate of aging, and giving them decades of active and adventurous years, I simply had to keep stepping beyond what was comfortable and familiar. My mission overcame any internal messages telling me “I wasn’t good enough”, or “this wouldn’t work.” Believe me, those messages were present and very loud at times.

Trying new things, pivoting when something wasn’t working, and having resiliency to keep moving forward when I felt like giving up has been central to me reaching those who need the help I’m equipped to provide. As a heart-lead visionary who can see on the other side of roadblocks and obstacles, it’s given me courage to plunge into opportunities that may have taken others months, or perhaps even years, to decide on.

But wait…it’s not all fabulous. Remember those monumental failures I mentioned?

The downside for risk-taking, heart-lead visionaries is we often lack the foundational skills necessary to implement protocols, systems, and checks and balances that make for actually being good at business. Lack of planning and preparation can lead to major stress and financial missteps that could have been avoided with, well, a bit of planning and preparation. And I’ve experienced all of that and more.

One of my biggest areas of personal growth has been to balance my tendency to jump with some insight from colleagues, prayer for direction, and wisdom from. mentors, all while maintaining my courage to press forward, avoiding ruts, and continue taking those risks. As author and leadership guru John Maxwell says, “the only difference between a rut and a grave it the length!”

I know that God created me with certain skills, talents, and gifts that allow me to carry out my purpose. It then became a matter of expanding that purpose and vision by continuing to grow in areas of weaknesses while nurturing my strengths so I can serve women over 40 at a higher capacity.

Though all of this, I’ve learned that at least grabbing a parachute before you jump will equate to more lives reached.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
After beginning periemenopause in my mid 30’s, things with my health began to shift. The things that used to work, stopped working and I was left frustrated and confused. When I began to approach how I ate and moved in a way that worked with my hormones instead of against, them, I found a new mission in how I was going to help my clients (who were aging with me and experiencing these same things) in this phase of life!

As an integrative health and fitness coach who helps women in perimenopause and menopause shift their habits so they can approach their “Act 2” with boldness, confidence, and intentionality, I believe it’s the focus on body, mind, and soul that sets my brand apart. I focussed solely on body only for the first half of my 33 + year career. I never shied away from my faith, but also didn’t bring it into being an integral part of what I do with clients until I saw how it was personally shifting my own health.

I also didn’t understand the power of mindset and how daily intentional personal development can change the course of every area of your life until I began making this an intentional part of my own daily habits.

Now that I have these 3 “table legs” firmly in established in my practice, my clients see results that go far beyond just a transformed body and now experience a deeper faith that inspires them to find strength and resilience that was once missing, while their personal development allows them to learn to lead themselves so they can better add value to others. It’s causes a ripple effect that emboldens me to always be looking for ways to reach even more women!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Taking friends to the Dallas area is one of my favorite things to do! Our must stops are:

We would begin every single moring at Cracked and Crepe, the atmosphere and staff are incredibly friendly and the food and coffee are just about perfect!
Dallas Chophouse would abosolutely be on the list of dinners because the popovers are the best I’ve ever had!
Dallas Farmer’s Market is also a can’t miss stop and it’s so fun to talk to the vendors and hear their stories
Six Flaggs wether or not you have kids because it’s just fun!
The Galoria is always on the agenda because…shopping!
Midevil Times has been fun since the kids were little and is still so entertaining!
Flower Child is also a must stop as the food is so unique and always delicious!
Downtown is fun to walk around so that’s always on the itinerary, as well!
And any number of museums will keep you busy, entertained, and educated!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This shoutout is dedicated to my husband who never doubted my mission and supported me through every single high and low during my 33 year career!
