We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Sikorski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We had recently moved from Los Angeles to Texas and we didn’t know many people. My daughter was starting a 2 day a week school program and I wanted something that would take my mind off of her being away for the first time. A friend came to visit us from L.A. and her daughter was wearing the cutest dress. When I asked her where it was from she told me all about this brand new company called PixieLane. I loved that the company is owned and run by moms and that all of the clothes are made in the USA, most are sensory friendly too. Another thing that struck me about PixieLane is that it’s a business model that allows my daughter to help me and learn about starting and running a business. PixieLane is not an mlm, we don’t recruit anyone or benefit from other peoples sales. We are truly our own small business owners. I’m now almost 4 years in with PixieLane and my daughter is known as PixieAmelia and she is well known for her outfit of the day videos!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When we moved to Texas it was right before my daughter started kindergarten. I had already decided that I was going to homeschool. As a homeschool mom that was new to the area it wasn’t easy to start a new sales business. I started out by doing pop-ups at any place that would have me. I even did one at a pie shop! Slowly people started to try the clothes and once they did they were hooked. It was not easy for the first couple of years. With strategic advertising and word of mouth I now have customers not only in DFW but all over the country. I have learned that I can’t give up and that slow seasons happen. I have learned that one on one personal relationships are the best way to grow my business and to make new friends! I want people to know that even though PixieLane is a newer brand and it is sold by consultants that doesn’t mean that the quality isn’t great or that I will ask you to sign up for anything. Really, my favorite thing about PixieLane is that the clothes are sensory friendly. There is nothing that encourages me more or makes me happier than the mother of a child with sensory issues contacting me to tell me how happy they are that they have finally found something that their children not only love to wear but look amazing in.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, as someone that still feels new to DFW we have done all of the touristy things with visiting friends and family. I think that visiting the stock yards in Fort Worth is one of the most popular things with our visitors. I love hanging out on Main St in Grapevine too. It’s such a great place for a parents night out. I love hitting up one of the restaurants then hopping around to the different wineries. The nice thing about DFW is that there is always something fun either passing through or set up as a temporary exhibit.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is no way I could run my business without my husband and daughter. My husband is my main support in all things and he is always so encouraging with my business and it really helps that he is a graphic designer and makes amazing graphics for me!! My daughter is my #1 business partner. She helps me choose what items to stock, she models and does amazing and hilarious outfit of the day videos. She helps me bag customer purchases and make deliveries. But, I also have to say that my PixieLane consultant community is my number one source of mentorship. I love our community, a large group of women supporting women. We share tips, graphics, pictures of our kids, support and love. As small business owners the support is necessary!
