We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey McNeny and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsey, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I was taught from a young age the value of hard work and never giving up. These two things are something that has stuck with me my whole life. I’ve seen so many people doing just enough work to get by and still expecting to progress because they put in the time, when others work so much harder and do laps around them. I”m also a firm believer in keeping emotion out of conflict. I’ve learned from many years as a supervisor, from many books and courses I’ve taken that when mistakes are made the best thing to do is to give the appropriate information to fix the mistake and set the individuals up for success while leaving my emotions aside.
What should our readers know about your business?
My husband and I started our non-profit organization about 6 years ago and have been professionally training animals for over 20 years. We work with local animal rehabilitation centers and zoos to take in animals that either cannot be released in to the wild due to injuries or human imprinting and we provide educational programs all over the DFW area. Our programming focuses on conservation and wildlife education through live interactions with rescued wildlife. We provide these experiences so that humans will appreciate their wildlife cohabiters and become conscious of the importance of conservation and respect of animals. Our goal through our programming is to help people think about the importance of wildlife and the places we share with them. We face many daily challenges, from running a non-profit and acquiring donations to continue building our company and providing the daily care our animals need to running an organization that cares for wildlife when so much of the public is against seeing animals of any kind in captivity. Zoos and other great animal organizations do so much good for wildlife, yet after Blackfish so much of the public refuses to see this good.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of our favorite places to visit in Dallas are the Dallas Zoo, Bishop Cidercade, Dallas Arboretum, Perot Museum As far as food goes we absolutely love eating at Slow Bone BBQ, El Come Taco, Jimmy’s Food Store and Malai Kitchen
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Ever since meeting my husband and Co-Founder Simon we’ve talked non stop about wanting to have our own company, what our visions for our company would be and how we both wanted to save the planet and the wildlife that lives on it. He has been my partner, my rock and my inspiration for everything we have accomplished.
