Meet Lindsey D | Founder & CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey D and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, it all started with wanting to recreate a feeling. My great-grandmother lived on Sere Street in New Orleans, and some of my favorite memories happened in her kitchen. Things were so much simpler back then. We didn’t need much—just a hot cup of coffee, some toast (or Tastee’s Donuts if we were lucky), and time with each other. My cousins and I would sit around her table, laughing, telling stories, just soaking up the moment. That was her way of connecting with us, and it stuck with me.
When I started Sere Street Brews, I wrote down three goals: I wanted to create something that brings people together through something most of us do—drink coffee. I wanted to build something meaningful I could leave behind for my son and family. And I wanted to show people that great, flavorful coffee doesn’t have to come from a big chain or a fancy café. You can make that magic right at home and turn your kitchen into your own little coffee shop.
Sere Street Brews is about flavor, yes—but it’s also about slowing down, being present, and finding joy in the simple things. That’s what it meant to me growing up, and that’s what I want other people to feel when they take that first sip.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sere Street Brews isn’t your everyday coffee company—it’s personal. I created this brand as a love letter to my great-grandmother, Mrs. Pinky, and to all the grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins, and neighbors who made Sere Street such a special place growing up. That street was filled with family, love, and good food. It was my happy place. As a kid it was definitely all about being allowed to have coffee. But as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized it was all about the moment. The laughs, the stories, the sense of home.
What makes us different from other coffee brands is that we’re rooted in that real sense of connection. This isn’t about selling trendy coffee—it’s about helping people create little pockets of peace in their day, and making café-quality brews feel easy and accessible right at home. And I’m super intentional about flavor. Every blend is crafted with care and a little piece of my family.
I’m most proud of the fact that this idea actually made it off the page. It took me almost two years to get it right—lots of late nights, reworking designs, second-guessing, starting over. I’ve had to push through things like procrastination and overthinking, and stay consistent even when it felt like nothing was moving. But I’ve grown so much—personally and professionally and wouldn’t change a thing about my journey.
And no, it hasn’t been easy. Some days the sales are coming in, and other days nothing is happening. Some mornings I wake up excited, and other days I have to pep talk myself out of bed. But I keep going. Because quitting isn’t option. That was never in Mrs. Pinky’s playbook. She didn’t teach us that. Pivoting, sure. Resting when needed, absolutely. But giving up? Never.
One lesson that’s stuck with me is it’s not about how you start, it’s how you finish. I didn’t launch big or perfect. But I launched. And now I’m learning and adjusting as I go. The other big one is: just show up. Even when it’s messy, even when you’re unsure. The consistency is what builds something real.
What I want people to know is Sere Street Brews was built on love, family, and flavor. It’s about honoring the past while creating something meaningful for the future. We’re still fresh, barely two months in, but there’s something special brewing here. And I can’t wait to see where it goes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d start the day slow with coffee at White Rhino on Thomas Ave—it’s my favorite spot to work or chill. The two-story outdoor setup is perfect, and listen… I would trade a lot for a Sebastian iced coffee and one of their breakfast scrambles. It’s just that good.
After that, we’d roll over to Deep Ellum and stop by Energy Gardens, which is this beautiful Black-owned plant shop. They do these cute little terrarium workshops, and the vibe is just super peaceful. You walk in and instantly feel calm—it’s like therapy but with plants.
For lunch, it’s Fuel City tacos—no question. The tacos are amazing and don’t even get me started on their elote. It’s one of those low-key spots that hits every single time, and it’s become one of my Dallas favorites.
Then we’d wrap up the night at Fivee Bistro, because that place is always a good time. The music, the food, the crowd—it’s got the whole vibe. And if it’s a weekend? We’re definitely going back for brunch because they never miss. Ever.
Honestly, that’s just the beginning—we’d probably sprinkle in a little shopping, a museum or two, and maybe a chill day doing nothing but talking and sipping coffee. That’s my kind of trip.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is for the Johnson family—for the ones who came before us, and the ones who continue to carry that love forward. You may not all be here physically, but we still feel your presence in everything we do.
This is for everyone who grew up with us on Sere Street. The neighbors, the aunties, the cousins—those who shared meals, stories, and life with us. Your love, your strength, your sense of community—it shaped who I am and what this brand stands for.
Sere Street Brews is a piece of your legacy. Every bag we pack, every cup someone pours—it’s a quiet reminder that you mattered, and you still do. You’ll always be part of this story.
