We had the good fortune of connecting with Lillian Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lillian, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor that helped us get started in building Brown Skin Brunchin’ was a determination to get out of our comfort zone and make new friends. Growing to become a nationally recognized brand has really been possible because of the support from the amazing women in our community. Throwing events around the globe in over 87 cities takes a lot of work, so we are also super grateful for the dedication of our ambassadors in different cities, our staff, and team that makes it possible to continue this incredible movement.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Melissa and I started the company in 2018, and Brown Skin Brunchin’ has grown to become a global organization and nationally recognized brand that specializes in providing women of color a safe space to connect and enjoy delightful dining experiences while cultivating lifelong friendships. As a market leader, our company currently operates in 87 cities around the world, and caters to over 41,000 women.
Our goal is to give professional minority women a solution to social isolation and a way to expand their personal and professional circles, minus the awkwardness of traditional networking events. With that idea in mind, we created Brown Skin Brunchin’ to bring together women in delectable and casual settings that make new connections organic, simple, and most of all, fun! The biggest challenge has been making adjustments to keep up with the high demand and incredible growth of the company, and bootstrapping the business. We look forward to creating even richer experiences for our members with the help of investors and brand partners.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Dallas is a beautiful city, and we host events throughout Texas and close to 100 cities regularly. We love to support black-owned businesses, try new restaurants and experience luxurious spas. Kitchen + Kocktails is a fine restaurant we enjoy, and Toulouse Café & Bar is a lovely place we’ve hosted at before.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Co-Founder Melissa Mason has really been my rock throughout the process of growing our company. Our friendship is one where we just know when to step in and show up for each other, and I can always count on her. That was really our mission in creating our company initially, which was to expand our network of friends and create joyful bonds with more women. We couldn’t achieve the rapid international growth we’ve experienced without the support of our local ambassadors and the awesome women who attend our events.
