We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexis Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lexis, why did you pursue a creative career?
I was going though a hard time during 2013/14 and I stepped into the dance world and it really helped me get through that time and I realized this was what I was meant to do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets myself apart in the industry is my passion and love for the craft! As long as I’m dancing I’m genuinely happy! I got to where I was today by finding my passion for dance in high school, then realizing it was something I’d like to pursue in the future. It definitely was not an easy path but I was willing to make it happen with long drives to dance events ,working overtime to fund my dance expenses, and also being able to help my mother as well with finances! I’ve learned to just do what makes you happy everything else will fall into place if you genuinely love what you’re doing all while being a good person as well! I want the world to know that even in the midst of all the crazy there is still some good and I plan on sharing my knowledge with as much people as I can!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take her/him to a Cowboys game even though I’m not a fan, it’s something you have to experience and see along with the stadium and people. Restaurants I love babes chicken, that southern food always hits the spot! I would also show them my Dance studio I teach at, just because nobody really knows how it works until you see it all happen. And I would also share have to show them the nightlife (clubs ect). I think dfw has so much culture to share and there’s so many places that deserve recognition!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my mother! She made sure I got to dance and pursue my dream all while being a single mother working 2 jobs and supporting me and my siblings. The early mornings for dance practices, conventions, trips ect no matter the cost she somehow made it all happen and for that reason alone she deserves all the credit!
