We had the good fortune of connecting with Lawrenza Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lawrenza, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Before I started in the print industry, I was a surgical dental assistant for 10 year’s work with children. Which I loved doing. I have two sons in elementary school. And I would show my appreciation to the teachers and staff by making them something personalized like a keychain, mug, gift basket, shirt etc. Then it turned into teachers asking for custom shirts and parents contacting me. About make them something for them or their family member. I talk to my husband and mention to him I think I’m going to focus on my small business full time and leave the dental field. It’s been the best decision ever I started with a small machine from Joann’s and moved up to a commercial printer.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others? It’s not just a printing business to me, it a Legacy that I will leave behind for my sons and it will be left for their children’s children. This empire that I am building to help my family. Prepare them for life understanding the meaning of hard work, good business credit, stable future and finances. That’s what sets me apart from others. I’m so proud of my accomplishments now than when I started in 2017. Because it’s so hard being a woman business owner and trying to get others to support you. How did I get where I am today? Praying every day and putting my own footwork in. Meaning I did my own marketing, Monday is my marketing days once I would drop my sons off to school. I would go straight home and bake homemade teacake cookies then. Deliver them warm then present my flyer and business card. If you don’t market, your brand/business and put in that work it will fail! And that’s not an option for me. That’s how I got where I am today. No, it wasn’t easy at all people don’t know what all comes with a business many sleepless, late-night work, tears and stress. One day I remember telling God on one of hard days. I was going to get big contracts from commercial business and this floor is going to filled with orders and I won’t be able to see bottom of the floor. And he it did I overcome my challenges by not giving up pushing myself to get out of my comfort zone marketing in the rain, opening up and talk to people exampling my business to them. What I have learned in this business is that you will definitely see who is for you and against you. When it comes to family and friends. You have to read and educate yourself about your business before you can tell others about it. Do your own research everything I do is self-taught so you can do it. My husband always tells me and boys you have a smart phone now do something smart with it. The knowledge is right in front of you, you carry it every day it’s up to you too use it. What I want the world to know about. Work By Leigh, LLC is the future will be 1# minority custom printing business in the world helping other small businesses with outsourcing product’s and bring customers vision to life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It would definitely be the Bishop Art district in Oak Cliff, Tx. It covers everything for a great experience from great art paintings, live music, cafes, sweet shops, boutiques, you could come for brunch, lunch, cocktails and dinner. The best part is your supporting independent businesses. I like to go to Yaya foot spa first it’s always relaxing from a long week of work. The after the foot massage I would go to Paradiso for food and drinks it’s a great atmosphere. Then I would walk streets after to visit the great store and before leaving I would go to Emporium pies and CocoAndre Chocolatier & Horchateria. To bring home to my family. The Bishop Art is such a beautiful place to bring the girls for a night out or just your family.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My first shoutout definitely goes to my husband for always being my support system and believing in me when I have those rough days, encouraging me to keep pushing. Secondly my customers for trusting me with their products and allowing me to bring their visions to life and being a loyal customer.
