Meet Lauret Odesanya | Owner and Operator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauret Odesanya and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauret, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting our business was rooted in our desire for more. Personally, more control of my time, more purpose in what I do, and more lasting impact. I’ve always wanted better than what corporate America had to offer in terms of freedom, fulfillment, and ownership. More importantly, we wanted to create something for our children. A legacy that reflects hard work, independence, and vision.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Scooter’s Coffee is an amazing rapidly growing coffee brand. Our menu features a variety of hot and cold beverages and food options include breakfast sandwiches and pastries. We are committed to quality, speed, and friendly service. Our advantages are our core values and quickly and efficiently scooting customers in and out of our line.
I am most proud of the opportunity I get to mentor my baristas. I don’t leave them in the dark. I talk to them about the business and get them to understand the whys for a confident and educated buy-in. Watching them grow, gain new skills, and take pride in what they do is deeply rewarding.
My journey started in Corporate America. I worked at a couple great companies, namely Walmart and Keurig Dr. Pepper. My roles, in financial planning, category management, and marketing have been a defining back drop for my business today. Starting the business was nothing more than a leap of faith.
It definitely has not been easy. There are long days, unexpected setbacks, constant decision making, just to name a few. However, drawing from my faith, surrounding myself with a solid support system, whether that’s family, friends, other franchisees who understand the journey, or the right go to contacts depending on the situation, makes it very much bearable.
Oh my. I’ve learned more than I thought I signed up for. Entrepreneurship is not easy. It is hard work. A few lessons – 1. Failure is part of the journey – You’re not going to get a lot of things right. 2. Adaptability is everything – you have learn to pivot quickly. 3. Know your “why” – if not, number 1 will frustrate you and can cripple you when it happens. 4. Don’t do it alone – have the right support system and know when to rest because burnout is real.
I want people to know they can do it too. It takes a lot of grit and then some, but it’s achievable.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t go out as much but Dallas is a beautiful city! I’d recommend visiting the historic downtown sites, Arts District, and the Dallas Arboretum to name a few. For shopping, NorthPark is a beautiful mall and Deep Ellum has cool local shops. For an awesome church, New Covenant House in Farmers Branch. And food? Oh my… endless.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband has been an incredible catalyst in my journey into business ownership. He has on several occasions encouraged me to take a leap when I’m still weighing the risks, and he constantly challenges me to grow through his own expertise and perspective. Whether it’s being a sounding board for reassurance, offering sound advice, asking the tough questions, or pushing me to move the bar, his support has definitely shaped the foundation and growth of this business.
