Meet Lauren Mcconaghy | Technology Executive, Small Business Owner and Mom

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Mcconaghy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My viewpoint on balance has changed dramatically over my career. I feel balance is often an unrealistic goal due to the limited number of hours in a day. Seeking to achieve balance often left me feeling overwhelmed.
What I find more energizing and practical is recognizing the many phases and paces of my life. For example, I might have a 3-month sprint where the majority of my time is allocated to a specific work goal. During that phase, I will cut back on personal projects, ask friends to help with carpools and give myself grace at home (i.e. more frozen dinners from Trader Joe’s!).
Once that particular phase of intense work is completed, I will intentionally scale back at work and dedicate more time to personal and family commitments.
I prefer a seesaw approach where I align my time to my current priorities and tilt the other way once that phase is over.
What should our readers know about your business?
Alsies is a modern and experience focused ice cream truck business. There are three primary reasons why the brand is different from other options on the market.
First, is our menu and commitment to selling local handcrafted treats, small batch gourmet ice cream sandwiches, and nostalgic goodies from years past. As a mom, I’m very deliberate in curating the highest quality treats for my children. The Nightingale ice cream sammies we sell are made with a 14% butterfat ice cream, fresh baked cookies and are non-GMO. We are also mindful to offer vegan and allergy friendly options so no one is left out of the fun!
Second, is the technology behind the Alsies brand. We offer a modernized ice cream truck experience with technology that brings convenience right to your doorstep. Through our app, customers can track and engage directly with the truck.
Third, is our aesthetic and vibe. From the joyful color palette, to the digital menu and mostly the friendly faces of our drivers known as “ambassadors” we are dedicated to bringing happiness to people of all ages.
I’m most excited to partner with non-profits, schools, and public service organizations. We live in such a wonderful community and ice cream is the perfect way to treat our teachers, first responders and other service providers.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Breakfast: Oddfellows (Bishop Arts District) – start the day with coffee and the prosciutto toast.
Explore: Deep Ellum – Walk around this artsy district, checking out murals, local boutiques, and breweries.
Lunch: Head over to the Pittman Hotel and enjoy lunch at Elm & Good. I recommend starting with deviled eggs.
Explore: Katy Train – Burn off lunch with a scenic walk or bike ride along the Katy Train.
Dinner: The Rustic – Have a margarita on the patio, listen to live music and order the The Drunk Chick special (it makes sense when you see it).
Post Dinner: The Joule Hotel – if you’re still looking to party, stop by The Joule and order a nightcap at the Midnight Rambler.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I love a shoutout! I’ve been blessed with many mentors, friends, amazing colleagues, and supportive family members.
I’m also an avid reader and podcast listener and find both are sources of inspirational ideas.
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my three children who motivate me to take risks, learn new things and embrace the moment. They are fun, kind, forgiving and love ice cream.
