We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Harder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
What really inspired me to start a business for myself was one simple conversation that took place between my father and I back in March of 2023. At the time I had just lost my previous job as a medical receptionist, and I was constantly just stressing over where I could go work next and still make a decent amount of income. After our conversation, all I could really think about was trying to come up with an idea on how I could make the most amount of income possible within the limited job listings posted in my area. I grew frustrated and through that frustration came the best idea yet—I would become my own boss. Since the age of 16 I have always had at least one if not two jobs consistently, and with much thought I discovered that the only way to have a non-limited income is to find what you are passionate about, create a business plan, and just go for it! The only thing that stops you is yourself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an esthetician student I was presented with so many different routes I can eventually take my license down to succeed. At the start, it all seemed so overwhelming, with numerous different techniques, treatments, and services to memorize—I was stuck trying to decide what exactly I want to do with my estheticians license. After much thought, I have decided as of now that my goal is to work and take clients out of my at-home studio until I can afford to rent a salon suite. I am leaning more towards specializing in facial treatments, waxing, and makeup application. I love being able to provide a boost of confidence for my client as well as them being able to enter my space to relax and recharge.

To get to where I am today, I have been attending esthetician school as well as reaching out to individuals I know personally that have made a place for themselves in the world of beauty and cosmetics. It has been such a unique experience to have individuals I have known since high school offering to “trade services” with each other to provide opportunities for more practice.

Some lessons that I have learned during my ongoing journey to become an esthetician include pointers such as not forcing or rushing things, trusting the universe and it’s timing, as well as how to prioritize correctly to optimize my education as well as skills. I would like the world to know that I am here with goals to provide an exceptional experience for each client that walks through my door. I am very young, some may say, yet I am enduring and dedicated—I will not stop until I am completely satisfied with where I am at.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite spots in the city of Dallas include restaurants, entertainment, as well as amazing views. Starting off strong, Monarch is a rooftop restaurant with an amazing view of Downtown Dallas, great food and drinks, and such a classy yet cozy environment. I would also have to recommend Vidorra, a modern Mexican restaurant located in Deep Ellum. This restaurant has such a fun ambiance to it with upbeat music, greenery for visual appeal, and AMAZING food! Entertainment wise, I recommend checking out what’s going on at the American Airlines Center, Dallas Comedy Club, Theory nightclub, and special mention to the Dallas Museum of Art. If you are willing to drive about 25 minutes Northwest of Downtown, The Colony is often a popular destination with many things to offer such as numerous restaurants, live music, indoor go-carting, and much much more. Lastly, I love any spot that has a great view of Downtown Dallas, so stopping by the Reunion Tower observation deck or West End Parking garage is a MUST for amazing photo opportunities.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my parents for their love and support throughout my journey of starting esthetician school, as well as the support that will continue to be shown as I continue to pursue my business and career. I would also like to give a huge shoutout to AVEDA Institute and their incredibly dedicated instructors. I have had the pleasure of meeting so many amazing individuals during my time of study at AVEDA and will forever be grateful for the knowledge, connections, and confidence that I have gained at their establishment.
