We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Cathey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
While I am still growing and learning with my small business, I started it to share my work and interests. I have several creative passions and hobbies, and I love making stuff in general. The purpose of my brand LCat is that it encompasses all my creative pursuits. My interests range from painting, embroidery, and sewing to digital design, beading, journaling, and anything that keeps me creating. Being able to share my work is exciting and rewarding as someone who loves a project.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Painting is a big part my artistic output. I enjoy focusing on objective subjects like still life compositions, or gentle creatures like birds or beetles. I’ve learned a lot while painting these subjects, like how to loosen up and to not control every detail of the outcome. In my artwork, I hope to communicate the idea that there is beauty in even the simplest things in life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A week with friends always includes a Wednesday evening at Lost Street Brewing Co. in Durant, OK participating in their trivia night activities. There is excellent food, drinks, and community there. Occasionally I love to visit the Main Street Mall in Dension, TX, where I could spend all day looking at the antiques. Lastly, an awesome group activity during the weekend is going to an escape room at the Downtown Escape Rooms in downtown Sherman, TX.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are several people that I can thank for my creative journey and success. Growing up, both of my grandmothers nurtured my artistic hobbies and taught me much of what I know. Kristi Jones, my high school art teacher, inspired me to pursue art in high school and into college. I received support from my fellow artists along the way through sharing experiences and ideas. And lastly, my partner, Skylar; we continue to learn so much from each other while following our own creative paths.
