We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In my private practice, I blend neuroscience techniques, clinical therapy approaches/interventions, and shamanistic healing practices into the session based on the client’s needs. Shamanism is not a religion or spirituality, it is a mechanism of healing which believes that everything on our body, in nature, and in our environment can be a catalyst for healing. What enthuses me most is the ability to use three very different perspectives to help a client transform. Common feedback I hear in session is that the client has never healed on the level of mind, body, and spirit and this has made a world of difference for them. Talk therapy can only get the client so far, at some point the client will have to engage in practices that can help them cope and become an expanded version of themselves. In addition, sometimes traditional therapy can only reach a client’s conscious mind while the blend of techniques with shamanism can reach the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is where many of our wounds are located.
The neuroscience perspective and interventions help a client re-wire their brain and discover brain-based coping strategies. The traditional therapy techniques blended with shamanism gives new meaning to sitting with a therapist. Blending these two pathways of healing gives the client a sacred transformational experience that they can attribute as their own. The ability to effectively blend these perspectives is what makes me most proud to be a contributor in this holistic field.
When I started this company in January 2020, I left the corporate world and made a leap of faith that my private practice would grow. All I had was trust. I did not want to advertise because there was faith that God and the universe would send me the right people that were meant to work with me. March is when COVID lock-downs began and through that process many individuals discovered there was much that they needed to heal from. Fortunately, clients connected with me and my private practice grew very quickly. Fortunately, there weren’t many barriers that arose that kept me in fear. For me there was deep conviction that leaving the corporate world was beneficial and that my mission needed to go in a different direction.
Today, I am grateful for that inner yearning to do something different. To be authentic to that spiritual tug meant it was time for expansion in my life. For anyone out there that is having an interior pull to change the direction of their life, just do it. Trust fully and know that there is abundance in this universe that you are included in. Never let fear of failure drive you- trust that you will find a way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If this friend were visiting, I would take them to hike at Eagle Mountain Lake or take in the views of White Rock Lake. I would also take them to Sundance Square to listen to live music at Scat Jazz Lounge or hit up The Stockyards. We would have dinner at my favorite restaurants Hatsayuki or Don Artemio. We would do yoga Sunday morning at Panther Island with FWC yoga and hit up Sunday Funday with a kayak on the Trinity River. We would have lunch overlooking the city of Fort Worth at Branch and Bird while listening to more live music. We would end the evening with a cigar Silver Leaf or Good Karma.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Grateful for a life full of angels, teachers and mentors that have loved me and supported me. There are too many to name individually but the following were key contributors to my success:
First and foremost, my immediate family. My parents and my two brothers (and my dog, Rocky!) have been constant sources of strength and encouragement. They see me clearly and are constant sources of unconditional love. Dr. Frank Lawlis is my mentor and has taught me so many valuable lessons about life and working in the field. I cherish every moment we are able to connect.. My DFW Spirituality meditation group members that gave me renewed purpose in the DFW area and have encouraged me to continue on my mission. Finally, my friends who have motivated me to stick with my passions and never doubt my potential.
