We had the good fortune of connecting with Lacey Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lacey, what principle do you value most?
Being a “good” human. This might sound vague because “good” can be highly subjective. Allow me to explain.

I have a passion for waxing but more than that, I want people to be happy, comfortable, and confident. I try to create that type of experience for each of my customers. In waxing, people are basically paying for pain, right? However, the end result is greater confidence in their appearance. If I can make that experience comfortable with my tools and techniques as well as connect on a genuine level, most people forget about the pain. This is at the heart of my business and my life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I covered the “why” behind my business in the initial question about values. I worked for other salons and the principles of the business were not aligned with my own. I wanted to go out on my own because of the schedule flexibility and the financial upside but also because I wanted to create something that made people feel good. Again, waxing is not exactly pleasure island, but when you create an environment where people feel welcomed and comfortable as well as offer a solid technique and tools for a smooth experience and after care, people want to come back and they tell their friends. Now that I am scaling, the challenge is making sure each person on my team understands the vision and the mission. Anyone can wax someone, the how and the why have to become fundamental. I am working with a friend who is also a consultant to help me build a strong team and convey what sets Bare Cactus apart to both clients and employees.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a pretty casual person. I like Tupps Brewery in McKinney. It has outdoor space for kids to play and very kickback ambiance. And, to be honest, there is nothing like a backyard BBQ. We spend a lot time on our backyard and making it a place where the kids can play, plus, at the moment, I have a baby on the way so staying close to home is a bit easier.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I pursued entrepreneurship because I needed a flexible schedule to care for my family. At the same time, it is a big scary leap to become a business owner and build your book of business. My family, and in particular, my husband, was very supportive throughout the growth of my business. My friends also rallied around me and gave their support lending expertise and cheering me on when times seemed tough. Fast forward to today–I’m scaling and these same people are here for that next scary leap. I couldn’t do it without them.
